Looks like you're in Utah, any reason you don't get your money back and go with Preferred? They're down southeast of Hurricane, and I've heard good things as of late. They will spin the old barrel off and torque the new one on for you for like $75, and if it doesn't fit, they will spin up a new one right there. They have carbon fiber options.

They're about 5 hours south of me and were a consideration. When I initially called their front of the house person didn't know much and said they couldn't do a custom profile with 5/8x24 threads. They have since produced those but I'm going to stick with my new local smith (45min away) or bartlein.

I know that feeling. Iv got a $1200 barrel sitting that will never get used because of this. If they will give you money back I’d cut your losses and run.

If you have a smith close by you trust us just order a blank and give him the business.

I've tried to get my money back and possibly could with all the documentation I've done. I'm still willing to see how this one shoots.

In the future, the only way to get your money back is a charge back. They're pretty proud of their warranty policy which states they're willing stand behind their product but no refunds. From what I've seen they should be standing at a distance behind their product. Being 6 thou over spec on the second barrel, I'd be leery with some of these hot factory loads.

the barrel arrived again today. strike 3 for carbon six in the competency department. i might still be able to use it but not for these guys incompetency. i just don't get it... we talked specifically about .003 coming off the shoulder to put it in spec. they said it already was in spec but it clearly was no where near the headspace of the first barrel which was a little tight but usable. this latest rendition is tighter than the first. instead of taking .003 off they doubled it and went for .006 . i honestly don't know if they meant to do this but that's what happened. now my stripped bolt won't close on the go gauge. like i said earlier, i might be able to use it still since i can get my reloads in there but it'll be tight and unreliable with factory ammo. originally i had expected to use factory loads but don't think i'll do that without checking that each one will load.
I read this 3-4 times. Not that it matters, but I’m still confused. You stated you wanted .003 cut out. They cut out .006 and you said it’s still tight. Now you say it’s loose? I must not have had enough coffee today.

It's not hard to find unhappy preferred customers on the google machine either. Never seen the ugly machine work pics like mcgowan or C6 though.

I've explained it throughout the thread. The first barrel was bound for the dumpster. Just for the sake of comparison, I checked headspace before sending it back. It was tight but serviceable. The second barrel came with too much headspace. I could close the bolt on the no go plus .002. I requested .003 off the shoulder of that second barrel, which would put the headspace closing on the go gauge and not closing on the no-go gauge. This second barrel has been sent back and returned with .006 removed from what was on it when I sent it back. This results in the bolt not closing on both the go and no-go gauge.

I requested .003 off the shoulder
I get it now. Odd wording. To me, requesting .003 “off” the shoulder means taking the existing shoulder length and taking another .003” off of it by cutting it longer. Literally taking .003” more material off at the shoulder. You meant going the other way, reducing the measurement by .003.

I guess I don't follow your thought process there. You were correct until your last sentence.

Ok so how does cutting the chamber out more than you wanted make it come back tighter?
The shoulder mates to the face of the action.
If it was long. And you took more off the face of the shoulder it would screw into the action further.
Which would bring the throat closer to the bolt face.

At least that what I think he said.

He wanted the throat .003 closer and they moved it .006 closer which took it from to loose to to tight.

It seems as though you are confusing shank and shoulder.

.003 shim stock will fix it up in 5 minutes. Not what I'd do unless the choices were that, a lawyer, or a dumpster, but it's an option.

Interesting business model where they'd rather end up sending 3+ barrels to someone rather than just give a refund after the first FUBAR.

Seriously considering eating the deposit on my C6 order after reading the above.

Ordered a Proof pre-fit from Stockys (which was basically the same price as the Carbon 6), and was in stock at my door in less than five days.

I had a great phone call from the owner yesterday. Stand up guy and answered some tough questions. He'll stand behind his product.

edit: i've thrown in the towel on this business. 4 chances to get it right and still ended up with a trash barrel. lesson learned.

Man that’s good to hear. You’ve been frustrated and I think “fair” in venting those here. Glad you got a “better” feeling talking to him. Step in right direction for sure.

Similar.

I didn’t borescope but appeared to look ok. Threads were fine IMO.

I haven’t had a C6 tikka prefit before. But did have a proof.

My savage C6 prefit is set so it won’t close greater than .003” off go gauge. But that is adjustable via barrel nut. The proof prefit on tikka is also set at .003”.

The tikka with a “good amount of torque” is set at .005” (as tight as I could get it).

SAAMI says .01” is standard. So it’s within SAAMI specs. Most go / no go gauges are .003” too .006” so I’m fine for now at .005”.

I’ll see how it shoots.
