300 WSM, Winchester Ballistic Silvertip, 180 gr.

The stuff is non-existent! I have searched everywhere around me, online, etc and no luck. I even contacted Winchester to see if they would be producing more soon, and just got a canned response back. I thought that I had two boxes, but I was wrong... I only have 6 rounds! Now fortunately, I shot/sighted in my gun last fall, never hunted with it, and know exactly how it is shooting. In theory, I should be able to hunt for 6 years! 😆😂

Has anyone seen this stuff around for the WSM? I am crossing my fingers that it makes a reappearance SOON. There doesn't seem to be a good 1 to 1 equivalent that matches the ballistics of that particular cartridge.

Have to be 180grn or can 150 work?

There are 2 sights I found using a place called ammo seek that has 150grn listed.

The 150 gr is completely different ballistics and not as heavy-hitting for elk, like I like. The Winchester is the only ammo I've ever put through this gun and it performs magnificently. I would hate to spend $40-60 on a different ammunition to sight it in/practice, then only have to switch back.

I think you may be surprised how close a different brand/bullet will shoot just stay at 180gr. It will be very minor adjustments if any. If elk are on the menu I'd suggest switching to something like the accubond anyways. Which I believe winchester also loads in their ammo

Understand. That site you can check back frequently to see if/who has that exactly. I've been able to track down rounds for my 257 Roberts using that site.

I was just about to post the same thing about federal fusion .308 win 165s. My deer season starts 9/1 and I cannot even find them online. I do not have time to get back to the range and change round. I only bought one box because i was switching away from balistic tips wanted to check group and move my zero. I am in SC so my shots are close and any 165 will be minute of lung but it just irks me.

This is one reason I reload for most of my guns.

FYI, the ballistic silvertip is a combined technology round between Winchester and Nosler. The Nosler Ballistic Tip is the exact same bullet to be honest, just without the lubalox coating.

Would any of the other Winchester 300 WSM in 180 gr work? There are some Power Point and Power Max I found online.

Sounds like it's time to branch out. My 300 WSM shoots Hornady 165 Interlock and 200 ELD-X, and Federal 165 TSX very well. I would use any of them on elk.

Midwayusa.com had a few different 300 WSM when I last checked. Local Academy also has a few different loads.

Good luck.

I thought I found some at Deguns.com, but it was a mistake via gun.deals. The UPC I believe is 020892213944, and it doesn't appear to be anywhere online. The Nosler E-Tip SP also has 3k fps at the muzzle, but it still isn't exactly the same.

If you want to stick with Winchester 180gr, the Super X are pretty close to the Silver Tip performance wise (0.2" lower at 200 yards). But yes, you would have to sight your gun in again, and spend money on more ammo. I had something similar happen a few years ago when I ran out of some 30-06 cartridges that were perfect for my rifle. I spent a lot of time and energy looking for the same ammo, but figured out that it was no longer being made. Although I don't know that you are facing the same outcome, it might be good to have a couple of options that you know work - albeit with a bit of necessary changes to your scope. I now have 3 types of 30-06 ammo I keep on hand - fwiw.

You can try any of the factory rounds using the 180 Accubonds. The 180 AB, BT, and BST shoot to the same POI in a couple of my WSMs.

180 ABs are factory loaded by Winchester, Federal and Nosler among others.

The reason I didn't notice I only had 6 rounds is because I had two boxes in my ammo cabinet, but for some dumb reason I put a box of empties in there last time I shot it (last sight-in season). I didn't touch the rifle again, because I used a different gun last year. I would use it this year, but my wife drew a tag for a hunt in a completely different zone at the same exact time as my elk hunt. So now I do not have that rifle available to me this year (first time this has been a problem)!

I have absolutely zero interest in reloading–I don't have the space, time or inclination. Two kids (8 and 6), one of which is battling Leukemia for the second time, homeschooling, working from home... all that makes it hard to pick up a new, expensive hobby.

In retrospect, I wish I would have just bought my rifle in regular ol' .300 win mag. Definitely more ammo availability there. I was thinking of giving the Browning BXC 185 grain a try... anyone have any experience with this ammo? I have been able to pretty reliably find that stuff in my local stores. Honestly, that is why I am a bit hesitant... why aren't people buying it?

An option to consider would be to contact a custom ammo manufacturer. See if they can
Load some with the same components.
