Just purchased a 243 tikka t3x.
I'm chopping it to 18" and use suppressors on everything I own. It's a factory 1 in 10" twist so I'm wondering what you all have been able to stabilize with factory tikkas? Looking for recommendations on HIGH bc bullets. I've been looking at 95 grain bergers, sierra tmks, hornady eldx/eldm. I'd love to spring for the 105/108 grain range but I have my doubts as to whether the tikka will stabilize them.

So please let me know your 243/6mm twist and what it can or can't stabilize! Thanks

Wasn’t a tikka, but I had a savage with a 1:9.25 that would not stabilize the 103 eldx. I would guess 90/95s would be close to max with a 10 twist

You’ve verified 10” twist?

What is your goal with rifle?
If you're asking if I measured it then no I haven't, going off of tikkas specs. My goal with the rifle is to maintain a velocity of 1800fps at 600 yards from an 18" barrel for a handy and lightweight setup that can double up as a gun for my kids but will see alot of range time/hunting as well. And also because I don't have a 6mm and I wanted one. It will eventually be rebarreled in 6cm most likely or a fast twist 243.

I'll get confirmation tomorrow if it is or isn't and cancel the order if it is not 1:8. No reason to buy a 10 twist if they now make them with 8s. Have you seen them stamped incorrectly?

I’d measure before I reject; it may not necessarily be marked on the barrel…see post below for an example of unmarked 8” twist

I can second the 95BT if you end up with a 10 twist. But you are on the right track trying to get the 8 twist. I have 243s in both. An original BAR in 243 that will cloverleaf 95gr ballistic tips all day, but hates the 55-80gr bullets. It eats almost any 90-100gr and is a true 10 twist. My custom 8 twist currently shoots 105 a max into tiny groups. But I only have 500 left and the barrel is around 1000 rounds. I’ll stay 243, but go 7.5 or 7 twist for the next barrel.

Just got back from the gun shop, tikka on order was indeed a 10 twist. Spent a considerable amount of time with him trying to locate an 8 twist. Eventually contacted beretta to find out that no 8 twist tikkas are imported. Only 10s. Yet there are people finding tikkas with 8 twist in the US. Not sure what to expect!

it looks like tikka changed the twist rate while still using old model numbers, so I’d think that all 243’s from now on will be 8 twist. I couldn’t find any 243’s on tikkas website that still listed a 10 twist. Fingers crossed anyways.

If your right I'll patiently wait until 1 is in stock locally and test its twist rate to verify before purchasing.
