Got close to bull bugling hour before daylight this morning. He started moving as it got light. I kept up behind him for an hour or so but he had no interest in turning and i couldn't get ahead. I've been napping in the sun and hoping to get back in the game this evening. May have heard one other bull.

Last year I had bulls singing every day and all over the place. This year in the same spots, there has been absolutely nothing going on in most all of those same areas.........except right outside my camp. 4 bulls keeping me awake all night screaming their heads off. Finally got on the "big one" Friday morning and gosh he's big.......but dagnabit, he's also much smarter and patient than I am in HIS part of the world. 60 yards away and absolutely no shot windows, with 30-40 cows all strewn about a 5+ acre timbered meadow. Add in the dang-blasted swirling wind and I didn't have a chance.:(

Hopefully the ML's haven't pushed him out of there this weekend and I can get another opportunity at him this week while he's still close to camp. As much time as he spends downwind from my camp all night without spooking, you'd think he'd be accustomed to my scent by now.

Hit or miss for me in central CO. Three nights ago we had two bulls screaming for two hours. I snuck into 20 yards but of course that bull wouldn't follow his cows through the opening broadside to me at 20 yards. Been pretty quiet ever since. Watched a big bull cruising just below timberline all alone two nights ago. Bulls want it but cows don't seem to be ready.

It's been pretty quiet for me in central CO as well. Usually I can stir a bugle out of the ranch adjacent to my place that has zero hunting pressure but can't even get that yet.

Was out in north west CO for the last four days. Had cows and bulls come in silent to both cow calls and one or two early morning bugles. Bunch of bugles at night during the full moon. Seems like things should be heating up soon for Northern CO.

the bulls in summit county CO lit up on wed ,9-10, just after the 30 plus hours of rain. just like some one flicked a light switch on. things went pretty quiet again after the first muzzleloader shots went off (a day early in my zone) on friday.

Was pretty quiet in western Colorado, on 9/11 I called in a nice 6 point for my wife, she missed him at 12 yards (don't ask me how, I have no idea).
He bugled coming in but that was the only bugling I heard all week long.

This reply is a week after you posted the question, but I spoke to my guide Friday Sept 12. He was on the Ranch earlier that day in North NM (unit 4), and said they had two bulls taken during the previous hunt. He also stated the bulls were not bugling, and the whole area was very dry. This is a working cattle ranch, and all of the water tanks were completely dry. They were hoping to get some rain, possibly from the weather system that will be moving up the West coast, and possibly moving some precipitation into the area. He expects the bugleing to start anytime now, and rutting activity to increase.

I hunted for bear over the weekend. I saw plenty of fresh elk tracks, but never heard one.

I have been on Bulls everyday that I've hunted since about the 3rd in my area. They will readily answer a location bugle, but have not been bugling on their own until this past weekend.

Pretty quiet up Benchmark area this weekend. Lot of fresh sign but more hunters than I'd like to see. My buddy saw a 6x6 after the bull saw him so that was a no go. He also busted a nice size griz at about 10 yards in an alder patch. Another guy we were hunting with got a 6x6 within 85 yards but not a good shot. I busted what I suspect was a bull at about 25 yards but never got a look. Some bugles, probably mostly the human variety. Lots of fresh sign but didn't see a single cow.

Heard 3 or 4 bulls monday morning here in MT. Was between two of them but it still didn't pan out. We could hear cows with one of them. All was quiet by 9. At noon we spotted a young bull running around like a young whitetail buck on the trail of a hot doe. He came in giving us one squeally little bugle but stopped short of presenting my son a shot.

They're screaming in northern Colorado now. Amazing the difference a couple of days makes. The moon is helping now too.
