Having read the last few pages of this thread, it looks like we can add that to a long list of things you think you know.

If we want to increase manufacturing in the US, we are going to have to massively increase immigration to get the bodies to do so.
Why don’t you just come out and say you voted for Biden?

I have three degrees and I dropped out of highschool because it was a waste of time.
I have two college degrees and no HS diploma or GED. When I was 17 I took a placement test at a community college and began taking courses. I got an AAS there and then a BS at a university.

I use to know a guy that could not read or write words with more than five letters, basically illiterate, but he did have a HS diploma, and it was from a public school in a state that ranks very high in funding per student.

Wanting to bring in “immigrants” to work in factories IS political.

My comments here are old. Take it up with Matt B.
I've taken it up with you since you've brought the who you voted for on this thread.
This is your warning to make an effort to be less politically post driven and look for more opportunities to post about hunting related topics

Interesting, I didn’t see a “Bring back Made in the USA” thread nor a comment directed at me saying we need to bring in more immigrants as being overly hunting related?

Mostly because I didn’t.

But I did work for 25 years at a pretty high level at a major US financial institution and had ready access to world-class economists. That provides some insight into what it would take to create tens if not hundreds of thousands of jobs when the domestic unemployment rate is 3.5%.

Bring in the immigrants to do our labor for us when millions of Americans are welfare lifers and “kids” live at home with mom and dad until they’re 30?

Idk about those “world class economists” you speak of but they don’t impress me if that’s the strategy. I say throw the welfare lifers off the books and put them to work first.

3.5% unemployment 🤣

There’s been dozens of posts over the last year about Made in USA. We all talk about it and want it but the fact is we are addicted to cheap goods. Supply/demand and market value of labor is being rebalanced aggressively. Labor and wages are the big topic. Lots of people blame unions, socialism, illegal immigrants, or whatever boogie man they come up with. Many people still blame unemployment benefits even though 25 states ended the federal benefit months ago. My feeling is that many business owners will either suffer or go out of business because either they can’t make their bottom line work paying higher wages, or instead of raising their company wages to compete, they will shutter. One thing that is happening is people of color who historically took the low wage jobs are looking around and realizing they would rather make $20 at Amazon than work in the ship yard or factory for $15 an hour. Big corporations are now so rich they can hire anyone they want.
Business that can’t afford to pay their workers fairly are failing capitalism

People don’t want to work in factories anymore, they all want to make 100k a year playing on computers.
What idiot would rather become disfigured making $50k/yr on an assembly line when you can make an unlimited amount of money in between fishing and hunting. I made my choice in 2007 and am sure as hell never going back. $100k is low. real low.

I'm curious where the workers went. 5 years ago everyone had a job and people were spending like mad. Businesses in my area were open late and weekends.

Now, my favorite restaurants can't staff for late shifts let alone normal ones. Crime is THROUGH THE ROOF and only getting worse.

I just bought a new pack and paid a significant premium over the imports.

What really pisses me off is working for .gov and seeing nothing but Chinese garbage in our most iconic infrastructure. There is no requirement to buy domestic, so uncle Sam's procurement process feeds the red army.

Chinese bolts, wire, tools...etc are not acceptable in my industry in the private sector and here we are buying this junk for the fed.....it's disgusting.

Lots of new segments of industry have opened in the last five years that don’t require people to work in an office or blue collar.

I think you are also seeing a massive shift in generational priorities. More and more people value their time and freedom over money.

Unemployment is actually lower than it was 5 years ago...

And the average customer is terrible to waitstaff, I don't blame people for not wanting to make the service industry a career.

Unemployment and labor force participation rates were about the same 5 years ago.

Unemployment
4% 3/2018 vs 3.5% 3/2023
Labor force participation
62.9% 3/2018 vs 62.6% 3/2023
