1st fish of the year on a work stand-by day.Not much for braggin’

So, not to one-up your accomplishments or anything, but this is the ONLY fish I caught all of last year! I have three girls so when we go fishing I don't have any tackle for myself, they keep me pretty busy. I got to go out on a river float on my birthday and this was the only thing I reeled in...I was laughing my ass off!

Not a big fish. Not an interesting fish (to most)
But this was Pap’s 60th birthday present and I think it’s turned into an annual trip.

Best eating as well. I prefer them over halibut or any other fish that frequent the cold northern Pacific. I see about 1000 caught every year, and every time one comes over the rail I drool.

Yeah, I wished I had a boat and could go every weekend. It was a blast. It probably shouldn’t have, but it surprised me how aggressive all those bottom fish are in the ocean. Super simple jigs and tubes. Drifted a bit, bounced it off the bottom, wham-bam!

I’m planning to go again in July.

I fish them every single day the weather allows in March April May and September. My boats 43’ so it takes a bit for me to cancel. Today was a cancel. 15’ seas.
I make my living catching bottomfish. I am so thankful they are aggressive and love to chew. Salmon fishing is so boring compared. I quit salmon for that reason and only fish for fish that eat non stop. Bottom fish, tuna and halibut

Fishing north of the arctic circle in the ocean for sheefish. Got 5 feet of ice up here. Biggest one today was 20 pounds. Back out on the 60 mile snowmachine ride tomorrow to find the biggins

That is so awesome. How many machines do you take? Ever go out that far solo or do you always travel in groups?

We flew up to kotz and rented machines from a guy up there. I wouldn't think it would be good to go solo in the conditions we were in. At some points through out the day we could only see 50 feet feel pretty small in the middle of the ocean when it's like that. We pulled a few more out yesterday and flew back today. Got frost bit on the nose, just a flesh wound. Will be going back but we will probably go mid April for hopefully warmer weather.

Tough to follow the last post...but, my last run at ice fishing locally here for the year.

Iced 6 of these guys, only kept this one as it was hooked really hard:

Kept these guys for smoking the trip prior:
