Blackhorn/best alternative....

Hello all, with the current price of Blackhorn 209 just through the roof and availability very low, what are you using instead? Looking a triple 7. Thanks Jason

Best alternative is 777.

(Or smokeless in rifles rated for it.)

777 is a good reliable affordable substitute. Used it for many years and killed alot game with it. It's my back up for BH209.

Gearhart-owen or Schuetzen for me. I do have some pyrodex on hand as well. Always liked pyrodex if real black wasn't available.

If you’re shooting a .50, I’d try 2F first. Most guys use 3F in the smaller calibers, but it would work as well in a .50.

When powder got really scarce a few years ago I bought up a few lbs of Pyrodex P.

Since then it’s always been somewhat available and I’ve had good luck using it for a long long time.

Is it optimum? Maybe not but I’m not going around looking for the optimum.
