Best western state as a resident? Idaho?

Howdy, I am about to graduate from college and I am wanting to move out west to hunt and snowboard. My original plan was to move to Idaho and get a lifetime license so that I could still have resident draw odds if I later decided to move again. Is this a decent idea? What states would you all recommend for someone to move to? Only downside I’ve found with Idaho seems to be that there’s not a ton of work up north where I’d probably want to be. Any insight is appreciated. Would just like some general advice as well on how you all would do it if you could do it again or how you did do it if you like how it went for you.

What’s your degree in? I’ve been recruiting and hiring people here (Idaho) for 20 years. I know the lay of the land fairly well, and your chosen profession will dictate some of where you can find good jobs.

Hard to answer without knowing your field, but I would just point out that your income and career impact a lot of your hunting opportunities.

As you noted living in the dream outdoor area can be great, but if you have little income potential it really hampers your ability to hunt all over the west.

Moved to Idaho from Kansas in 1974. Largely depends upon what type of work you're looking for and what part of the state you want to live. Tech sector employment is strong in the three "urban" parts of the state - Pocatello, Coeur d' Alene, and especially Treasure Valley (Boise metro area). Also Idaho Falls has INL and can provide excellent opportunities in some professions.

Plus, its one of the lowest population states- so not only more tags but less hunters...and shorter lift lines at the ski areas

NM? Visit first. We go through the state quite abit. Las Cruces just last week. Homeless everywhere has been really bad since covid.
