Bass Pro Shop buys Sportsman’s Warehouse

I don't begrudge SW owners taking the money and running but AssPro destroys every thing they touch. Enjoy 20-30% markup on anything quality if they even stock it. I'm sure they'll devote half the store to crap sunglasses and poor quality redhead gear at the expense of the reloading, muzzleloading, and fly fishing departments that were semi decent..
Being in the mid-west there aren't a ton of fly shops around. Being a fly fisherman and fly tier I shop at BP and Cabela's for tying materials, usually the selection was pretty good and still seems to be. There is a local fly shop but the owner isn't super friendly unless you are going to spend $$$$$ for equipment or book a trip. I can drive
(pre virus) 10 minutes and be at either store and get what I want/need.

What’s a scheels? I feel like I need to find one
A sporting goods with a giant ferris wheel inside. They have everything under the sun for all types of sports.
Seems like they are trying to please everyone.

Well, Scheels just better not sell out. I bet they know the main competition will boil down to just them and BP. You know BP doesn't really care much about outdoors people when they just start trying to soak up the whole industry for money's sake.
Its all about money, not supporting consumer outdoorsmen and conservation like they would like you to believe.

If memory serves me correctly BP and Cabela's started out catering to hunters and fisherman. Now they try to cater to everyone by carrying clothes, furniture, jewelry bedding, cookware etc. Stick to hunting and fishing and leave home goods to Walmart, JC Penney and others. A true hunting/fishing store is now mostly a mom and pop operation and they can't survive long in this environment

I hang my head in sorrow reading this, i guess it’s a chance for local stores and someone like a scheels to come in and play the role. hopefully Boise can get a Scheels, but we may have too many Commiefornians for them to come here now! 😂

more people are shopping on online. I Do feel lucky in KC we have all of them. BP’s, Cabelas, Scheels, and Rogers. All of them are busy and moving product. Like it or not this is a business move and they have the cash flow to do it.

BP has certainly ruined some good products and now stores, though Sportsmens Wherehouse in different locations were much better. when Cabelas started buying brands and outsourcing cloathing they started going downhill then BP bought and they both have went by the wayside as an outfitter type store.

Pass the lube.

Sportsman’s is the last local place that actually carries reloading supplies. I will miss their extensive selection. I’ll have to find another dealer of Camp Chef pellets.

Cabela’s has turned into a novelty store. I can’t even get a decent t-shirt there any more.

My money will be going to Mack’s PW, MidwayUSA, and Natchez. I’ll use my local gun club or somewhere like Reed’s Sports for firearms orders.

I have only been in Sportsmans Warehouses in AZ and Fairbanks, both to buy tags and stove fuel. Seems like decent stores. Cabelas and basspro is huge down grade.

I have Bass Pro Cabela's and Scheels all local to me. 99% of my spend between these three stores goes to Scheel's, which is excellent (maybe what Cabela's used to be 20+ years ago). I've never been in a Sportsman's Warehouse but I did notice they had ammo in stock that others didn't. This consolidation sucks.

The wife looks for cloths and I head up stairs to hunting. Only place she can trick me into buying regular cloths

They do a good job at it too.. Can buy fishing gear, hunting gear, shooting gear, camping gear, a new pair of tennis shoes, some jeans, shades, even bought a silicone wedding band and my lady likes going there almost as much as me.. I don't know if their corporate culture involves a dropping uppers in their employees drinks but they are downright cheerful and seemingly across all locations and ive been in IA, MN, ND, MT, and NV.

The gun selection is impressive. Nowhere else in MN that I'm aware carries the nice mountain hunting gear like crispi, hanwag, kennetrek, about the whole damn stone glacier line up, mystery ranch, etc. Its a hole that has been open for midwesterners forever.

Glad they just built the new Scheels in MN. I am smack dab in the middle of two of them. I will happily drive by Cabelas Pro Shop (15 minutes) and Sportsmans to shop at Scheels.

You must be pretty damn close to me.. (Monticello)

Don't kid yourself and think Scheels is off Bass Pro's radar.

Don't want to derail the thread but I've always been curious what the "do you want to round up your purchase for conservation" actually funds. Ive searched their websites in the past but never found anything. Anyone know? Conservation = cabelas?

Very disappointing. Love the feel of a home town Sportsman’s. Can’t say the same about a Cabelas.
