Who knows, but I just happened to watch that a few minutes before reading your comment. Thought it was kind of funny.
i shoot a creedmoor, so if there was an obstruction in the barrel, the very respectful 6.5 projectiles would kindly ask the obstruction to move (whenever convenient) out of the way and joyously continue on to the top of heart and lungs.... nothing bad ever happens in a creed barrel, it's a zen environment

Respectfully, i wasn't aware that the 6.5 creed had enough horsepower to push a piece of tape off the muzzle

I was told by a reputable precision shooter years ago that dust and dirt were a bigger nemesis to accuracy than anything in a barrel. I fail to see how taping a barrel doesn't keep things out of it, including water, if it's done properly. I also put one or two strips over the end and then wrap circumferentially around the barrel with a few laps to keep it from peeling off when I pull it out of the case. Also gives me extra in case I need to re-tape. I don't trust outdoor magazines to give advice. Most of the writers are tools or have ulterior motives. Not saying that's the case here but I've seen more studies proving tape doesn't affect accuracy and that's been my real-world experience as well.

I started using a balloon instead of tape a few years ago. It is quick and easy to get on/off. And, doesnt leave all the residue behind. Pack a few extra balloons in my bino harness and always pull them off before shooting.

Tape residue comes off easy with a little rubbing alcohol or some sweet smelling Hoppes #9 at the end of the hunt.

Midwesterner here. Can y’all explain taping the barrel of your rifles hunting out west. I understand it’s to prevent foreign material getting in and clogging the barrel but is it really necessary? Shotgun hunted for deer since I was a kid and never had to deal with an issue (keep your gun off the ground). Granted 12ga is obviously a bigger barrel orifice.

If it is seriously recommended, is there a certain tape you’d pick, and why?

Thanks for the help!
Bullets fit tight to bore, if hunting for days on end in rain it bevents water and debris from entering the barrel and sitting on top of your chamber round. With a shot gun the junk just get turned into more shot, wads are soft plastic and no rifling. We tape .22s and they have no issues blowing it off.
