Ban Unit Numbers in Rokslide Threads

Have ability to ban and or delete unit specific threads?

I think we are going to have to disagree on who's responsibility this is.

I can see both sides of this argument and disagree this is the answer. If people don't reply or pm the thread dies a natural death, if people want to talk about it, well then it'll keep circulating.

Maybe we should ban those who go out of there way to degrade and troll on those unit threads instead.

Might be time to bump my unit thread and see who's honey hole I can end up in come September.
Its complicated for sure…the reality is social media and the internet and technology is complicating things. When I see somebody come on here looking for a honey hole and guys are like “PM Me” or offer it up on the thread it kills me inside. I don’t think people realize that everything said on this forum can show up with a google search.

I will say that there seems to be a lack of respect for the process and hunting in general when you don’t work for places to hunt. I honestly don’t blame those who ask, I am blame idiots who respond on those threads.

Agree. The variable that changed is social media and the ability to to throw out a line and see who bites. I think humans have always been inherently lazy.

Same with Morels..

Same with Huckleberries..

Everyone wants the spot w/o the effort.

I'm very tight lipped about my spots. My 13 y/o son knows but he has been educated, many times, about what not to say. ;)

Yeah, but again, the direct or indirect information shared on this site pales in comparison to the big publications or the hunt arrangement services/permit application services.
How many unique ip addresses visit this site every day? Or when draw results post??

I figured California would get blamed first as usual. Nice to see another state getting blamed for ruining everything
Those Texans hunting a hippie liberal California transplants sent by Governor Grey Davis to ruin the great state of Texas.

I understand the sentiment, but this desire people have these days to regulate everything other people do is bizarre. I haven't yet seen someone post a unit number in relation to success. Instead, it's usually someone asking for help, or occasionally a new person will ask for honey holes while also saying I'm not asking for honey holes. I doubt highly that posting a specific unit on a forum drives an increase in hunting pressure there. Unless someone is saying here's a pic of my giant bull shot in such and such unit....which never happens.

We all are aware of the dramatic effect forums can have on a unit.

What if we can be part of a solution and make those Unit Specific threads go away?

Have a little report button and BAM, the thread is blocked until a review can be completed. It happens every year. I am sure that I am guilty at some point but would love to see a way we can "police" this type of behavior.

Whatcha think?
I think that the Rokslide owners should put together a group of mods who could cover that and broader questions about the veracity of information posted here. They could call it the "Ministry of Truth" or something like that. What problem could anyone possibly have with that?

As an example of that on a somewhat different scale, the 180" Dall ram - which is the largest Dall sheep killed the past thirtysome years - that came out of Unit 12 a couple years ago, didn't cause an influx of resident hunting pressure in that segment of Alaska, nor did it increase nonresident hunter interest in that area.

Dont you worry. The western states are cracking down and will soon be limiting your access (and other NR) due to the constant folks complaining about seeing other people while hunting.

Good luck getting tags in the future and you might want to ask a question about maybe access that only the locals know. Then, you might get banned. LOL!

Life really is simple. Talk about what you want to talk about and keep yer mouth shut otherwise. Once you start regulation people on what they say you cross a line. Boo hoo we might talk about “my” unit and “my” spot.

I'm fine with that as long they they sing bibitty bobitty Mary Poppins songs. Lol

I am one of the people that search up unit numbers and look for reviews. I'm not looking for specific spots, but the more information I can gather to make some choices, the better. I appreciate when I can get basic reports in specific units. Life is busy, and I only get so many opportunities to get boots on the ground. The more info I can get before committing to a 18 hour drive, the better.

Ive found more site specific intel within units directly from fish and game websites than I ever have in forums. Guess we shouldnt talk about that either. Maybe ban biologists? Thats a common recommendation to start researching a unit. Thats all Ive used to find good spots.

If you ban unit numbers, how will we talk about poorly managed units and where not to hunt? Works both ways. Cause d3-5 in CA is a nightmare for poor deer hunting and the epitome of a mismanaged deer zone. Overcrowded and meant to make money, most forks dont stand a chance there or anywhere in CA. Wish I could have found intel on a horrible spot to hunt in Utah though. What a waste of time lol.

If you ban unit numbers, people will probably start talking about even more specific spots to skirt that rule, like mountain ranges and drainages. Careful what you wish for.

this is a great idea, the Admins are probably feeling underworked anyways.... if i was them, i would probably make more forum rules that increase my work load at least 6-7X, then they would never be burdened trying to figure out what to do, since they are constantly buried in moderating.... it's a passion for them anyways right?

another thing we could do is ban anyone who posts a picture WITHOUT a unit number, Rokslide could hire Matt Rinella to cover that job.... "show everything or nothing at all" is his mantra right?
