Anyone have to work with keeping turkey meat in good shape in the “backcountry”. We will be packing in 2.5 miles or so for a long weekend trip coming up here soon. I don’t really know how temp sensitive turkey meat is. Out plan is to breast out and keep legs intact as that is the NE requirement. If we get a very large bird I imagine we will make a special trip while back to the cooler in the rig. Any experience here?

Might be able to get some good info on honest-food.net Hank Shaw has quite a bit to say about how long you can safely age certain game at certain temps.

We hung it over a creek for half a day. Shot a second bird the same afternoon so we made an ice run. Worked out just fine.
