We've hunted one of the GYE units for a long while and enjoyed a lot of success without incident. In recent years, we've encountered more and more sign, but just minded our Ps & Qs. Last year our luck turned and I lost about half of my bull to a bear. Claimed the kill site while we hauled the first load. Pulled the meat bags out of a tree 500 yards away the next night.
On the bright side, we got to watch wolves try unsuccessfully to steal his prize. That was entertaining, but not nearly as satisfying as a full freezer. Next time around I'll put even more distance between the carcass and meat, and hopefully find a tree with higher, stronger branches.
