At least both of you got to hunt last year! I was so busy that for the first time in my life I didn’t get to spend a single day in the field during season. It was painful. I’d rather eat a tag sandwich any day than not get to hunt at all! Here’s to a better year for all of us.I’m in that same boat man!
A couple beers. If less than 2 miles lolWith ultralight everything, sawing handles off toothbrushes (or not bringing them), etc. what is a creature comfort you drag with you regardless of the weight penalty? IE fingernail clippers, book, bourbon, anything goes
I pack bricks of food early in season and grab them as needed through the season for various trips. Each one contains a surprise food or bonus item. Sometimes I get to plan my meal planning for the day around cooking or consuming that extra item and it breaks up the monotony of freeze dried and snack bars. Items may include a second breakfast, a freeze dried dessert, hot cocoa, a high quality instant coffee, herbal tea.
This is the best photo of them I have sitting on my phone.Man, that is a killer idea. Would enjoy seeing some photos of how you pack up these food bricks, and what they look like.
That is a great idea. Mind dropping pins or GPS coordinates? Just so I can, you know, get a better look at how you package things…This is the best photo of them I have sitting on my phone.
In each bag is a few things for drinks each day. Something caffeinated, something salty, and something sweet. Typically it’s Starbucks via, Swiss Miss, LMNT, or liquid IV. Honestly I just buy whatever is on rebate at Costco. That manages to keep a decent bit of variety in the mix.
For snacks I carry about 1500 calories in ready to eat food each day. The only things that haven’t changed ever are that I eat 2 pro bars a day and a belvita cinnamon almond butter biscuit with my morning coffee. The rest of the snacks vary with whatever is on sale at Costco.
Depending on the season I carry 1-2 freeze dried meals a day. I have access to a freeze dryer and typically make my own meals. If I’m using commercially available freeze dried food I repackage it into 1 quart ziploc bags
I typically make 5-10 bricks at a time. I put all of the above mentioned foods into a 1 gallon ziploc bag such that they fold nicely into a brick shape.
There are better ways to pack food for trips. If I was better at planning I would pack more real food and less food that doesn’t rot. I’m lazy, and my body hasn’t started rejecting any of the food I pack along so I’ll keep doing this for a while longer.
