Life is good. BM went home without a buck. Rosinbag is here now and passed on this buck this morning... as well as a few others. The rut is getting stronger... expecting the big boys to show up soon. Ed F

I made it out for the first time today in one of the low desert units. Got onto 5 different bunches of does. Four of the groups had one or two small forkies running with them, but no mature bucks. Hopefully it is just the beginning of the rut here. A few of the immature bucks came within bow range, but it is too early in the year to use my tag on one.

This is a great thread as I have been wanting to go on this hunt for a few years now. I am hoping to make it a reality next year if all goes well with plans. I am learning a lot of good information from all of you and look forward to the updates and how you all are faring. I wish you all good luck and appreciate the entertainment this brings. I'm pulling for ya!

I just got back home from this hunt, I did the combo in an area you could glass coues on the mountain and muleys in the flats. I had a blast, it's one of the most fun hunts yet frustrating hunts I've ever done. It's a very target rich environment so you can easily do two stalks or more a day. Getting thru, around, or past the doe's is a big challenge. We were on 150-160 muleys daily, and I chased a 100" coues for 3 days to no avail. I came home with the tag but it is a year long tag. So come December I'll take off and go again. It's worth your week to go do this hunt. You won't regret it.

That sounds like the ultimate hunt with lots of opportunities and challenges to be successful. I am hoping to be able to go for up to two weeks next year as I have never hunted Arizona and would think it would help increase my odds to have some additional time in the field to get to know the unit. I have a lot of homework to do as I am up in the air on the type of hunt that would be the most effective. I am thinking that having a lot of mobility to cover lots of area until you get into critters would be key. I have a fifth wheel, or could take my wall tent or just hunt out of my UL Copper Spur. i am staying tuned to learn more of what you boys are finding that works best for you.

If you have the ability to carry a side by side or four wheeler it will be of great use. There are roads all over southern Arizona thanks to border patrol, also thanks to border patrol your cell phone works practically everywhere.

Dang, I was rooting for BM. I can see it now Ed F's Friendly Guide Service, lol. I am confident you can get Rosinbag on some good bucks, hopefully he can seal the deal.

If only I could hunt and take photos/video at the same time! I tried wearing the GoPro yesterday and the only thing that came out was getting busted by a doe. What you don't see in the video is the other does and the nice buck in the distance.

I left the GoPro at home today, and wouldn't you know it, I got into a deer frenzy that included two mature bucks, one fork horn, a spike or two, and a few does. I could have smoked a spike at 20 yds, but the bigger bucks were just way too active, zigging and zagging chasing the does around while trying to chase the smaller bucks away.

I plan to start doing this hunt next year. Good time spacing between September elk and April turkey so it helps for year round fitness motivation.

Well... the weather and mud has been challenging. Rosinbag went home with his tag. He had several close stalks and passed on quite a few bucks. I missed a few more javalina with my recurve... lots of excuses, none of which are valid. We had a pretty cool sighting of three lions (female and 2 yearlings) playing around in front of us. I'm still searching for the one...only 16 days left. Ed F

Great stuff! Im a local and have been out a couple times in Jan, last one was for 3 days. The does weren't letting the bucks breed as of last weekend and it was all small bucks grouped up with does, I didn't see any big guys moving through. That looks like a nice buck in that pic!

I wish I could get out more.

Not mine but was taken today by a guy hunting with my friend. The hill in the back ground I glassed from 2 weeks ago and couldn't turn up anything bigger than 150". The rut near the border they're telling me has really picked up this week. Good time to be there I wish I'd of planned the hunt a week and a half later lol
