Not mine but was taken today by a guy hunting with my friend. The hill in the back ground I glassed from 2 weeks ago and couldn't turn up anything bigger than 150". The rut near the border they're telling me has really picked up this week. Good time to be there I wish I'd of planned the hunt a week and a half later lol

Wow, hell of a buck.

That looks just like a buck I seen two weeks ago in 18b. I had him at 41 yards but decided to pass only because I shot one last month similar. Tell your buddy congrats! I'm heading down again this weekend to try and find a good buck with my youngest son. He's super excited

The first clear day in a week. The bucks are still with does. There's nobody out hunting. I'm expecting to see the bigger bucks but haven't seen one since before the storms. Tomorrow... Ed F

Good luck Ed! If my boys didn't have a baseball tournament this weekend, I'd be out there.

I took a snow day yesterday from work and hit the hills. The weather and skies cleared up for me and I found this stud. I followed him for a bit and unfortunately he ended up going onto some private property. As you can see he ended up bedded down behind an unoccupied house. I watched him for several hours but he stayed on private land. Oh well, happy just to be out.

Doing a AZ early season hunt OTC In unit 27. Looks pretty rough terrain where I can pack in away from people. Anyone every hunted this unit? Figured the deer be kinda high early season but never hunted AZ. Any info or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks

There will be deer at all elevations, but YOU will probably want to hunt kinda high in late August. :)

To get away from people, you might try the Blue Range Primitive Area.

Yes sir. He came back after being gone for a few. This was the best pic I have of him. A nice size herd is moving between private properties and some State Trust. Hard to get on them that's for sure!

Was out there last week, thurs - sat. Saw a lot of deer moving. Bucks were still chasing does. It was pretty cold and windy where I was, camping wasnt extremely fun, haha. Saw a couple forks, a pretty large 2x and 2 3x's that were tall, but couldnt close the distance. Decent amount of hunting pressure where I was as well, which wasnt helping us, my best stalk of the trip got blown out by some other guys in the area.

Gotta find a couple places that are more remote or less popular at least. It was really fun though, and I learned a ton. I cant wait to get out again in August.

I bought a 2017 otc archery. I understood if I didn't shoot one in Jan I could put in for a draw to hunt Aug, and if unsuccseful in Aug I could then hunt again in Dec?

You sound correct to me. That's what I do. I always put in for the draw if nothing else to build up points.

A few of the Aug/Sep hunts are draw hunts, mainly in the strip and a couple others, but most of them are OTC. Most of the draw hunts are in the fall (Oct & Nov) and some in Dec.

Check out the regs, it will take all the mystery out of it. :)

It's over... I'm exhausted. Since the opening in December I was out in the field for over 30 days. From what I've seen and haven't seen in the last 4 days... the mule deer rut is pretty much over here. We saw quite a few bucks and my buddies had plenty of stalks. I never saw a buck I wanted to go after and burn my tag on this early. I'm already getting ready for Coues Whitetails in August.... I enjoyed following this thread. Ed F
