Nooope.
Nobody is.
I listened to an incredibly enlightening interview earlier this year. It's basically a discussion on how you really can't prepare for the SHTF really, because every different scenario requires different supplies, preparedness, plans etc. Every Prepper out there has a mental scenario that they're prepping for (TEOTWAWKI, zombies, nuclear holocaust, etc....) but realistically, a national 3 month power outage is going to create a situation that 99.999% of us couldn't realistically deal with.

It's nice & comforting to have a few thousand rounds of your preferred ammo, a few cases of water, 100 cans of beans & 50lb of rice laid aside but in all actuality, pretty much no one is ready for any eventually & if you're not ready for EVERY POSSIBLE Ess Aitching the Eff situation, really..... why bother?
Guns and ammo can solve a lot of problems

Not wanting to start a political thread, so let's get that out of the way.

Just curious how many of my Rokslide brethren are ready for cataclysmic times.
With all that is going on in the world, virus (strains,) lockdowns, gun and ammo shortages, Summer-long riots, etc, one would think that most around here would be ready for what's possible, but I could be wrong about that.

Location can have a lot to do with this topic, and how prepared a person can be.
I finally bought an AR, just because I can foresee them being banned or heavily taxed. I'll be getting the wife one as well asap.

Overall though, are you ready? Thoughts?
If we are talking cataclysmic end of times then yes, my soul is prepared.
If it’s just societal collapse I’m probably screwed, I live in the suburbs of a city that has several hundred thousand in population and only a few ways in and out of town. I can defend our home for a while but realistically we ain’t gonna make it.

I've been doing yoga and stretching. That way when the big one hits I can bend over and kiss my ass goodbye. 😲😆

The odds of me needing to help my kids through college with the insane increase in tuition is a much larger likelihood than the apocalypse...I’ll invest my money there. My desire for some land abutting national forest also. I guess both of those may help with the apocalypse too.

I didn’t live through the 60s but everyone I know that did said nothing today is as crazy as that. What about you who did? 1962-1972 vs 2011-2021?

Sad that 2020 was such a rough year for people. Shows how weak we are.

I was talking to my grandma. My grandpa got drafted and had to go to war. He was gone. My grandma was in her own and she was saying how during war time they had to ration gas and other things. She said it was kind of weird when there was no gas for your vehicle to drive. But it wasn’t hard she said “just had to tighten the belt and work harder.” Lol

I feel like if people now days experienced stuff like that people would really loose their mind.

Interesting comments here, surprising really. The nonchalance; hey, that's one way to look at it.

I've never believed that we might witness blood in our streets in my lifetime (50's) but now, I don't know.
Can't help but to suspect that some of you younger fellas are in for a real awakening if you expect to experience the lost freedoms that we've heretofore enjoyed.

Anyone that thinks 2020 was anything near hard in terms of what our species has been through in even the last 120 years or thinks anything is within 10 miles of SHTF is pure 10 ply.

Probably true, I'd say 500 years but who's counting. But overall in our 'first world' culture, there have been some semi-harsh realities for snowflakes this year.
Some us grew up in the 60's and earlier, we can relate to hardier life.

100% not ready for anything. I believe being ready and able to adapt to the circumstances to be far more valuable to survival. Humans are resourceful that is how we have made it this far.

Someday, somehow the doomsdayers will be right. They just aren't 99.99% of the time and, worse, what a person is preparing for or worrying about is rarely what gets them in the end. Doomsdayers have been scoffing at non-doomsdayers forever and I expect that to continue until the world ends.

The previous message in no way suggests wise people shouldn't reasonably prepare to live a few weeks/months if there's an interruption in power or chow.

Certain Eschatologists have been saying/predicting the end incorrectly since the Word dwelt among us. There have always been and always will be signs pointing to it and those who are arrogantly certain it will happen in their lifetime, even when all who came before them were dead wrong, will likely keep bashing people over the head with predictions.

anarchy/looting/burning was not encouraged or allowed during the 60's. They at least made efforts to enforce the rule of law and if you enforced it yourself you were not prosecuted/persecuted for your self defense/property defense actions.

the last year has been much worse from a point of outright lawlessness and the standing down of police, leaving people to fend for themselves and then arresting them for doing their best to try and protect their lives/property. Some of the 'officials' mking those decisions need to be held accountable but they will not be and will probably be advanced which will make those situations more likely to happen elsewhere.

Hmmm not sure I want to say. You mite be collecting IP addresses for resupply locations 🤣

Not as supplied as I wish I was. When its good and life is easy it is so hard to commit time and money.
Then once even the tiniest thing happens its to late.

Mentally I'm ready. Getting home from work out of town will be the challenge.

Name 3..... other that folks trying to take your shit.
Well I’ll try. You listed defense as one.

1. hunting for food
2. Taking other people’s stuff so you can survive
3. Killing yourself before being overwhelmed by the zombie horde

easy

bartering for goods when money is useless.

admittedly, a lot of the usefulness is derived from being able to kill other people

In all honesty, I have a few boats, a few snow machines about 300 gallons of gas, a few freezers full of meat and a high tunnel. I could be ok for a little while, fresh water would be easy to come by.

I’d probably end up drinking too many white claws and vodka mixed with mtn ops and pass out and wake up and all my shit would be gone.
