Von Benedikt tagged a trophy buck that another hunter claimed was rightfully hers. We have spoken to all parties involved, and many of the details of the hunt remain disputed. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources authorities are aware of the incident. However, based on von Benedikt’s self-reported account of the hunt, it is clear his conduct wasn’t in keeping with Outdoor Life’s values and mission. We hold our editors and writers to the highest standards of sportsmanship and professionalism in the field. As a result, von Benedikt will no longer be an Outdoor Life contributor. A harvested deer, especially a trophy buck, should represent a celebration for the hunter and for our hunting community.
