We used to call it tennis shoe Flats. Guys running out and tagging bulls before the shooting stopped. Sorry to hear you lost your first elk. It was a shit show down there in the 90’s. Always thought somebody was going to get shot.

Way back when I was but a young hunter in So. Wis. I almost lost a nice 10 point white tail to another hunter, and I would have, but as luck would have a game warden had witnessed the entire thing. When the guy had his tag on the deer, in stepped the warden, and said not so fast buckwheat, the kid shot the deer and I watched it, but as a consolation, you get a citation. I like Wis. wardens. Biggest deer I ever got.
I refuse to collect deadheads or deer other people shot - if I or family member didn't shoot it, I don't want the antlers and sure as anything am not gonna get a mount done or hang em on the wall to remember how I stole the deer, lost the deer, or just found it dead...

"Kenosha County Deer Stolen From Private Property!!!!!!!!
I am asking are great hunting community to get this out there to help my brother recover the deer he shot and was stolen the same night, 11/07/2023.
My brother shot this nice buck at 2:30 yesterday, the 7th. He felt the hit was a bit back (probably a gut shot). We decided to stay in stand till dark before we looked for his arrow for further examination. Upon finding the arrow it appeared to be a liver shot with a good amount of blood. We refrained from looking for the deer and slipped out to ensure we didn’t bump the deer before he expired. At this point I reached out to a highly respected dog tracker to help track in the morning seeing we were going to get a good amount of rain overnight.
This is where the situation gets strange, at 11:15 PM we had a black Ford F-150 trespass onto our property, drive approx. 3/4 mile into are hunting area and left at 11:30. We did get a few pictures (attached), however they are not very good seeing the vehicle was driving thru so fast.
Now fast forward to this morning, the 8th. We entered the property with are tracking dog in toe. We did see truck tire tracks on our way in as we thought. Made it to the shoot site and the dog got on the trail instantly. She found the bed that the deer appeared to have expired about 40 yards from the shoot site, but no deer. She followed the trail for a bit farther but there was only white hair heavily pressed into the soil with no blood. As we were following this white hair trail we also came across a spot where someone tied a marker with toilet paper. The dog got to the point where the trail was lost, and she started circling the spot where the hair ended which was the exact spot the truck tires ended. Yup it sure appears someone dragged the deer off its death bed and loaded him into their truck.
There was only my brother and our wives that knew about the deer, we are very confident someone, somehow knew about the deer and is was taken from us.
You might ask how is this possible, and trust me, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it, 25+ years hunting and I have never seen or heard anything like this.
One theory is for sure, someone knew exactly were that deer expired, got in and out extremely fast to steel it. I think there is a possibility that a thermal drone could of been used to pinpoint the deer or someone was trespassing and hunting close to my brother and seen the deer expire.
I am just asking everyone to look out for this deer, he is easy to spot seeing he has dual split G2s, someone has it or has seen it and should do the right thing and help get it back to us.

We got the DNR involved yesterday to try and figure out what happen.
After posting the chain of events on Facebook last night, this morning a neighboring hunter reached out to me and informed us he had my brother’s deer.
He had shot a buck at the same time as my brother and started to track the deer at 5:30, the blood trail crossed onto are property and there was a misunderstanding from a previous hunter on their land that they had permission to track deer on our property. While following their blood trail, they came across my brother’s deer (that we hadn’t started to track) and thought it was the deer he shot so their celebration started.
As I mention in my original post there are good people in our hunting community, and in this case, they came forward and did the right thing and returned the buck.
My brother and I appreciate all the tips and advice you all have provided.

Anyone that leaves a deer shot at 230pm at 50 degrees without even looking 40 yards in the direction it ran deserves to have it stolen. I understand waiting for 4 hours, but not til the next morning and let the meat spoil.
They got it back. Sounds like someone on a neighboring property shot a buck at a similar time and tracked it onto their property then recovered their deer instead.
Similar to the AVB story now we have to wonder if there's a second deer laying out there!
