I have a RTT and will be using it this year. Always have a truck camp set even when back pack hunting. The RTT is easy to set up and super comfortable.
I usually spent around 10 nights a year sleeping in the back of the truck with a topper. I have a piece of plywood on the floor, then put my pad/bag on top of that. Nothing fancy, just saves stringing up a tarp or putting up a tent and is very mobile.
Long Bed white utility van. Insulated, raised platform made of wood 6.5' long in the back, storage underneath, ladder/ boat rack on top, can drag a small trailer, spend weekends in it duck hunting. Perfect rig for 2 guys and a dog.
Also won't hesitate to sleep in the bed of my truck at the trail head as I often arrive late due to work.
I have only done it when I absolutely have to, but man......you talk about condensation.......it becomes a shower in there even with the windows open. I did it in BC for a few nights because there was a rogue Grizzly boar that kept frequenting my campsite. So I just felt safer in the bed of the truck with a topper over me.
i have an ARE topper, and it vents pretty good. i opened the side windows and i kept the slider window opened as well with some my truck side windows cracked.
i only have a tacoma..so if you sleep inside you pretty much have to empty the bed. everything is outside.
the good? i borrowed a "dreamtime" sleeping pad from a buddy. it is Thermorest biggest and most luxurious pad. i bet it is 5" thick. both air and foam. lots of foam. it was so comfy..and huge!!
the bad? my dumb ARE leaks at the front corners despite my best efforts to install the cap correctly.
