Treadmill on max incline with a 40# pack for a couple miles each day at 3-4 MPH.

Running uphill/downhill sprints for 45 minutes a few times a week.

Jump roping every morning for 10-15 minutes to start each day.

Still hitting the same hill with pack couple times a week but I am thinking I may start dragging a tire.

I’ve been increasing what I’m doing as we get closer since I’ve plateau at a weight. Gonna go keto for 6-8 weeks if I have too but trying to wait till after vacay to start.

Keep at it everyone!

I started with 50 pound bag of corn, now I have a pillow jammed in bottom of pack and a 35 pound plate. So I could increase the pace of the hike

I too have pillow type stuff in bottom of Exo pack to raise the steel weights I carry. Works great! I put on a few more miles yesterday morn with 47.5 lbs. Will up it to 50# & stay there for a while,

Thanks guys for your comments! Keep humping it, elk season will be on us in no time & the elk don't care if we're ready or not! (grin)

42.5 lbs and hitting the hills regularly. Fun seeing the little blacktail bucks here on the island in velvet while hiking. Going to bump up a bit more weight in a few weeks.

Been hiking around with 20# in my pack and yesterday did the first one (3.5 miles, flat...) with 40#. Felt pretty good but I'm gonna take some advice from this thread and move that weight up somehow. Pillow, etc. Other than that, been doing the C25K program and today just hit my first 5K. So far, all injury free. Gonna keep pushing. You guys who do high school bleachers: do you just go right onto school grounds and use 'em, or do you have to check in or something? I'm right next to a high school and never thought of that, but don't want to get escorted off by security or something. Probably depends on the school.

Thanks for the good reminder thread!

Not sure what frames you guys are using but the molle 2 pack radio pouch will go on almost any frame or hang in a pack......will fit plates and keep them up between your shoulders. I can get 2 25# plates in mine e-z. The 1" bar all steel plates are smaller than Olympic bar plates so that's what I use.

Has anyone tried the MTN OPS products or workout plans...I like the 90 challenge mostly because I appreciate incentive based workout plans.

What are you guys doing to motivate your hunting partners? mine is needing to get in shape badly but has time for everything but getting in better shape. I'm at a loss he struggles so bad in the mountains (and hasn't filled a tag because of it) but seems to not be concerned until the week were leaving

60# pack and daily hikes on either stairs, hills or 5+ mile hikes. Some running but want to save my aging joints. No elevation where I'm from but it's worked for the past 25+ years. Can't wait for season

The truth! Fantastic way to put it!

38# last week, moving up to 45 or so this week. My knees even at 51 are still good to go so want to keep em that way. I try to walk mostly on grass to cushion the impact.

Sorry, can’t be done, it’s like trying to talk someone into quitting smoking, won’t happen unless they WANT it to happen, no amount of harassment can change that. It’s an iron law of human psychology.

njdoxie, I agree sir! They may show a spark at first but it will fizzle quickly if it's not in their heart! Well said bud!

Motivate your partner? Either get in shape or find another partner.....My partner started tonite on the bleachers with me........he lifts 4x/week and is already in good shape and about 9 years younger........45 mins on the bleacher together is a great workout (50# in our packs). Building up to 1.5 hrs.

Hang in there fellas, it will be worth it.

Keep grinding everyone. Continuing to climb hills and bleachers with packs at different weights.

Also really cut my cals on keto diet for next few weeks.

Got a little complication with my training, hopefully I'll be able to go hard enough in August and September to be somewhat ready for October!

I actually just started weighted pack stuff last night, Normally start as early as March or April. However have been doing a lot of biking in prep for several events. Lots of hill climbing on the mountain bike lately but weighted pack stuff is a whole different animal. I actually use the same hill, but different parts for both workouts. Feel like i am in decent shape for our normal hunt time, so lots of time to go, however I have two remaining bike events left, one a 2 hour 4700 foot hill climb (Mount Washington NH) in about 5 weeks and two weeks after that a 50 mile mountain bike race(ride for me) in the the Black hills, then 2 weeks after that, elk hunt in CO. I guess we will see how hybrid type training works. I still have to find time to shoot too. Thankfully have a decent base on the bike. However I still haven't really lost any weight and that is the most troubling.

Change in my routine for this year. I've made the decision to strike something off my bucket list and run a marathon for my 50th birthday in February. So I'm putting on the road miles instead of the bleacher steps this summer and fall. I hope it doesn't mess me up too much!

Any of you have advice for a non-runner prepping for their 1st (and likely ONLY) marathon?
