All things .308 Win

I usually shoot 165 grain Accubonds out of my Remington Model Seven SS with a 20” barrel at 2745 fps. This year I’m using a new load with 125 grain Accubonds at 3100 fps. Can’t wait to shoot one with that load.
The 165 AB and 308 Win go together like bread and butter, a classic combo.

Those 125s should do great on deer. I’ve done some dabbling with light for caliber bullets in the 308 but had a hard time matching the accuracy of 150, 165 and 175 class bullets in my examples.

In case anyone is interested

There is a website that rhymes with gridmay view essay that has some factory overrun 308 supposedly with Berger 167(I suspect 168) and Lapua brass, 100rds for $110. Lapua brass alone is $105 for 100.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread at all... has anyone used SRP brass in the .308? If so what was your experience with it? My use case would probably be mostly practice/training as I have a good stockpile of srp's.

Ive had my eye on those but really don’t need more brass. Have you purchased and shot this stuff? If so, how’d it shoot?

Works just fine

I have had a .308 for a while now, just been collecting brass and shooting whatever through it but I am actually going to try and do some load development for it starting this year. r700 SPS varmint. I was listening to the Vortex 10 minute talk from last Tuesday and they are talking abut Shell Tech NAS3 high pressure casings and found it a very interesting discussion. I am curious if any one on here has had a chance to play with those cases yet and what their results are? Satisfied dissatisfied etc. For the price I am very interested in buying these cases and giving them a shot but also since its newer information to me want some confirmation.

Maybe I missed it...what does that "bombproof 308 setup" look like for you @Formidilosus ? How would you set it up? Do you have a favorite 308 you use?

Ha!

Well, that depends. In general very reliable action and trigger- Tikka, MRC. 18’ish inch barrel- light to light medium weight. Suppressed- OTB for me. Pic rings and rail, though with a Tikka the UM or Sportsmatch are good. A 3-9x SWFA, or fixed 10x scope. The fixed 6x SWFA is good if it is more for true hunting use- for all around hunting and range use out west I may slightly prefer a fixed 10x.

This one is a T3, 20” barrel, Rokstock, suppressed, SWFA 10x. It has muzzle forward can and you can see how long it gets.

Currently my main one is an MRC M70 clone 18”, in a wood ROKStok and SWFA 3-9x.

Top one is the Woodstock 308, the bottom is factory Marshall in 6cm.

My homies MRC in 308win in the left setup the same- fixed 10x, US OG suppresor.

Are you guys still shooting a lot of animals these days with .308? I know everybody is on the 6 and 22 train now.

Good looking rifles @Formidilosus ! 😉Thank you for indulging me (us).

For pure shooting, the heavier the better. 12-13lbs however makes a shootable gun.
I should have guessed you would suggest some combination of Tikka T3x Lite/ MRC Marshall and SWFA/ Maven, etc. I think I got my wires crossed about setup for a bombproof 308 from Post #1,738 from "The Shoot2Hunt Podcast" thread when you were suggesting a heavier 12-13 pounds as an optimal overall weight. What I didn't pickup on was that your recommendation was based on a member asking about setup for an unsuppresed/unbraked 308.

I was wondering how you would get to that heavier weight, given your normal suggestions, since my T3x/SWFA/Rokstok/suppressor comes in under 10 pounds. I was thinking I would have to go with a heavier barrel and stock combination like a T3x CTR and KRG Bravo for my do-all 308. But I would personally hate to carry a 12-13 pound rifle all day, and prefer your above suggestions for any rifle I plan to carry very far. Fortunately, I live in a state that allows my suppressors!

The current and hopefully "bombproof" setup I will be experimenting with is a Mauser M12 Impact in 308 Win. with a 20" barrel. I have a Trijicon Credo 3-9x40mm scope mounted via EGW rings and Burris 2-piece picatinny mounts. It's crowned with an AB A-10 7.62 suppressor. The whole package comes in around 8lbs 15oz.

@Formidilosus ...do you have any experience with the Mauser M12?
