All things .308 Win

Well if you re-read it from the start, as you even quoted here, that’s half of what he said.

You responded with a two word question. He responded back to clarify and I’ll paraphrase, “name one from part one?
Or name one from part two?”
Then you basically responded, “part one, here’s the answer.” Like he should have been able to mind read.
Like trying to have a logical conversation with my kids.

Well, regardless of this weird tit for tat…my opinion is the .308 is a fantastic cartridge…based on my experiences.
  • Pretty easy to get a rifle to shoot well with most factory ammo.
  • Can shoot a variety of projectiles.
  • Shoots well with different barrel lengths.
  • Easy to hand load with good results.
  • Relatively cheap to reload.
  • Great barrel life.
  • It’s “inherently accurate.”
  • When braked or suppressed, there’s very little recoil.
  • And last, but not least….it kills stuff and fills my freezers.

150 NBT @~2735. No pics of wound but onside shoulder was completely destroyed, lung soup, caught bullet in offside hide just behind shoulder. Didn't mean to hit onside shoulder but he had it back farther than I thought as he was partially obscured. That's how it goes sometimes. Still managed to plow the earth for 30 yards, as he was pretty hopped up on doe estrous.

I need to load up some 150’s. I think it would be a great deer round.

And yes, sooooo simple, name a comparable cartridge with the same attributes. Saying 30-06 is not exactly faint praise. In fact a compliment to the 308. The question "name one" was not a multiple choice quiz.

Heresy, maybe, but the only load I've ever hunted with is Hornady American Whitetail with 150gr Interlocks. I got a stupid deal on a bunch when the local Dick's dropped their FFL side. Probably have another two-three years worth of practice and hunting before I start looking again. Only deer that has gone more than a few dozen yards was a doe I shot in the neck when she sat back and head-bobbed right as I pressed the trigger. Most have gone less than twenty.

Not the end-all be-all, but its got a 100% success rate for me in the Indiana deer woods with ranges from straight down to 160-ish yards. Would like to try something at 250ish, but that's hard to come by with a good backstop. Around my parts, anyway.

Shot a doe at roughly 350 with that load and the damage was massive. One of my favorite 308 loads ever

Bullet placement is always the most important. Then keeping within the range capability of the cartridge along with bullet construction. Nothing wrong with a 308 as long as you understand its capabilities.

I said in an abbreviated form to name one that could. And yes the gun cabinet is a bedroom full of different rifles and cartridges. But I can name one. The 30-06.
At the risk of reigniting the dumpster fire: Can do everything better? Incorrect, the 30-06 can't fit in an 84M action. Have had a couple of 84Ls in 30-06, but they're just not the rifle the 84M is and went down the road.

TMK175 at 2660fps is lethal well into the 600s. Wind drift is doable with that BC. Such a functional combo. Can practice all day long without wearing out barrels. - thats what the cartridge of mediocrity is all about.
