All things .308 Win

I only shoot 308 and 223 now

Just finished developing a load with a new 308 I had built. Tikka action, 1in11 pacnor barrel at 20" lightweight DPT moderator

Only 3 shot groups as a lighter barrel and moderator set up but very happy so far. Out on our Roe Deer next week to hopefully Christen it

Very nice. Some shithead will be along shortly to tell you 3 shot groups don’t matter…

exactly. I do 3 to verify the 1st one. Hell, all I need is cold bore shot Ha. I have actually shot at a target, cold bore, picked up rifle, came back next day, another cold bore. Did this for 3 days to get a cold bore shot group. I don't need 10 shot groups to comfirm. Just need to know where that 1st shot went.

1 shot, 1 kill

Zero check on my .308 with 10 rounds today. I did have the suppressor off this rifle and on another for a bit. I put it back on prior to this zero check. No other changes to the rifle in the interim. The rifle has ridden for miles of pasture and washboard roads in my side by side. I can’t really account for the .1 mil left shift except for possibly wind. I did make a .1 mil right adjustment after this group.

Also tested a load with 185gr HVLDs. 10 round group. Looks good, but not remarkable for this rifle. This rifle will put 10 rounds of almost any load in about an inch.

Had an opportunity to take the 20” .308 Tikka Roughtech to distance last weekend. Dialed in drops to 1,000 yards.

Loaded up 155TMKs, in Sig fury hybrid brass with H4895 - 2996fps average over 20 shots. Probably going to work up some 175 TMKs and 185 Juggernauts to see how they compare.

What scope and rifle setup? Thanks.

We've all heard of the .223 "Rokslide Special" (RSS) but I've come up with a new concept: "The RSS Heavy", a 308 Tikka. When I first got into hunting I found Rokslide through my extensive search for a rifle to replace my wife's 1970s .308 Remington and after paralysis by analysis on all the cartridges available I went with 308. What was important to me was to have one rifle I could practice with for relatively cheap and hunt with at short ranges as I developed as a rifleman and more importantly not break the bank.

Federal Gold Medal Match 175s (Prone, Bipod & Rear Bag in the dirt):
Middle 3 rd (zero check after 50 yard bore sight and rough zero, got lucky and pretty much perfect)
Middle Top 5 rd
Top Right 8 rd (all I had left in box, sorry no 10 rd)

Misc "Hunting Loads" and bulk ammo at Top Left, Bottom Left, Bottom Right. I know they are sinful 3 rd groups but I just to see if rifle liked them.
My RSS “heavy” lol. I like it better at 18”…now to the range.

ebay .308 CTR barrel I sent off to Kampfeld for fluting. Had a local to me W TX guy that owns MAD MFG Cerakote the barreled action. Covenant did the frog skin Cerakote pattern on the Bravo. Everything but the UM rings, AB Raptor, bipod were bought 2nd hand. IMG_4599.jpeg

Good timing for this thread. Just purchased the wife a Ruger stainless Hawkeye .308 with the 20 inch barrel for her moose/grizzly rifle. Plan is to restock it with a nice synthetic stock in her LOP within the next year and add a 3x9 or 2x10 scope to it.

I’m not a big spiral fluted fan but that looks like a great one to reduce some weight of a thicker steel barrel. May need to look into it for my 308

No. The 308 is a sub 250 yard round.
I cant tell if this is sarcasm. Its not the speediest of cartridges but stays over the opening threshold of most bullets way beyond 250 yards. Fuddlore even says it has enough "wallop" past 250 yards. You have started a lot of debates around here by sharing some unconventional views. Is this sarcasm or another debate starter?

It’s 100% sarcasm.

Thats what I thought about the pmr30 for grizzly protection when I read it. The argument that followed caused an uptick in 22magnum sales. Now I think my sarcasm filter is off.
