All things .308 Win

Anyone have any experience with the Hornady 110CX in .308win? I’ve got some for .30-30AI that have shot well, but I thought they might be a fun, fast, lower recoil option in a lightweight .308.

Not with the 110CX, but I do with the Barnes 110 TTSX.

47.6 grains of Accurate 2230 with CCI 200 primers will get you around 3070 fps.

Great light recoil deer round.

Tell me more about that butt pad set up. That a KRG with a limbsaver?
It is, holes line up perfectly and the edge to edge is almost spot on. It does add some LOP & you do have a notch out the center of the rear support bridge on the rear of the stock due to the tension screw head for the wheel that faces inward. Pretty easy install.
Didn’t think I was going to run it that high but after messing with some positioning I found I like it the best so far. Only had it to the range once though since I’ve installed it.IMG_0276.jpeg

Awesome! Thanks for the details on it.

Going the opposite of light weight 308 projectiles, pretty interesting video 212 gr 308. I know what we all think of most of their scopes, but I think these guys have a pretty good podcast. At least they speak highly of velocity trumps everything etc. and they come up with some interesting stuff like this. Be interesting how this project turns out.

I have a load that I use for my daughter. 125 grain Nosler ballistic tip, laupa brass and win primer with 47 grains of varget. It’s absolutely and deer killer with very little recoil!
I keep wondering why I shouldnt go with this exact loading for the less than 100 yard average shot I have on whitetails

Yes. That is some bad medicine. Are you getting close to 3000 FPS? I had one load long ago with that bullet that was pushing 3090 with a 26 inch barrel. Shot like a laser beam, almost dead flat to 200 yd. I forgot whether that was H380 or RL15.
At 2800 FPS impact velocity those leave a big hole. I don't know if it would be my first choice for a 300 lb Iowa deer. But a good hit is going to end the show fast. It turns coyotes inside out.

I like the 308 for what it is. I like other cartridges better, but the 308 is like a basic 4WD F150. It does most things a truck needs to do good enough without much fuss.
Might be an F250 by today's norms. It'll do most anything, except make a big payload go fast. And you can get 250,000 miles out of it with reasonable care :)

The damage done by the 125gr. Moving at that speed is amazing. Dumps all the energy into animals and its lights out.

Years ago, I used the old Sierra 125 sp and the 130 Speer on a bunch of whitetail. They killed really well. I always wanted to try that Nosler, but never never got around to it.

Very nice. Some shithead will be along shortly to tell you 3 shot groups don’t matter…
That did make me chuckle. Got out recently and the 3 rounds shot all accounted for a Grassed Fallow deer each at 250-260yds on the last day of the season .
Those TTSX worked fab

PSE stock should be here soon to finish it off

no antler size restrictions over here season's driven just by sex and species

Over the years and hundreds of guns that have come and gone (I had a problem buying and selling guns for a few years, mid 20's making ridiculous money) I've never kept a 308 for long for some reason. I can remember I believe 18 different 308's that I've had but just didn't hang on to them long. Buy or trade into one shoot it a bit hunt a deer season or two and they'd end up going down the road. I love them for an all around hunting cartridge and they kill perfectly fine but I just never found a platform I loved and it be chambered in 308. I'm so 6.5 heavy now I don't have a need for a 308 but I've got the itch again for a 308.

I just got rid of a bunch of 308 brass, I probably should have kept that. 😂

Went to the range last week to site in the Maven on my cut down 18”. Along with getting it zeroed I did some chrono and shot for groups to see what it liked.
Heres the ammo I tried with speeds using a Diligent Defense STI sporting a recoil X brake.
165 SST Superformance @ 2681
168 black AMax @ 2530
168 ELDM superformance @ 2684
178 ELDM @ 2481

Out of the 4 the 178 grouped the best. Everything shot was around 1” but I would’ve never tried this round had I not read others recommending it. I will say I’m not always the best a shooting groups, when it starts looking real good I have a tendency to pull a shot. Most 3 shot groups were good but when I went to shot 4 and 5 they opened up. The 165’s have always hit good in this gun prior to cutting it down and they still do. The 168’s were last.

The 178 were the slowest but I liked shooting them the most. The recoil impulse was more of a push and less snap. With the BC and speed this puts them at around 1850fps @ 500 yards, 3,300’ elv.

After shooting the 5 shot group I went right out to 500 with it and was smacking steel. I believe it’s about a 10” and was happy with the hits.

(I’m messing around with the krg adjustable height pad to see what I like the best).

How much speed did you lose going from 24" down to 18"

I need to thread my 308 for a suppressor. Wondering if I should cut it down as well. I believe it is a 22" barrel right now.
