All things .308 Win

Excuse me if I’ve already posted this but a 178 ELDX smacks the living poo out of a steel plate down range.
Those are what my Sig Cross prefers, and seem to always be on sale at my LGS for under $30 a box. Getting MV of a little over 2450fps with its 16” barrel and Banish 46 can, and comps out to a little over 1600fps / 1000ft-lbs at 600 yards. Both conveniently are the general minimums for velocity for ELDX bullets, and energy for medium sized game (my 7PRC does my big game work unless on Kodiak, then its 338). So is nice to know my general comfortable hunting range is within the rifle / cartridge / bullet’s effective range.

Love that bullet... but I have one rifle that apparently does not. Getting diagonal stringing with factory 178 ELD-X.

It's not a good system, Ruger American w/ Athlon scope that only gets used for close ranges in the brush. ~2.5 MOA with most ammo, ~2 w/ 150gr Core-Lokt, but this seems weird:

Adjusted zero and shot a 20 round group (the two high ones were #5 and #7 and were 100% me):

Am I seeing a pattern or is the same size too small here?

Anyone have any experience with the 168 ELDM Superperformance? My Sig Cross preferred the 178 ELDX's compared to the white box 168 ELDM's, black box 168 AMAX, and 150 SST Superperformacne. But the 168 ELDM Superperformance were on sale at the LGS earlier this week for $24 a box, so bought the last 5 boxes left and hoping for the best. The extra 140fps over the white box ELDM sure would be nice, as well as extend the 1800fps impact velocity another 100yds past the 178 ELDX.
I've yet to see a .308 that shoots the Superformance well.

I dealt with barely acceptable accuracy with them in a Kimber of mine before moving on. They were cookin' at almost 2900 fps out of a 22" barrel, but they were like 2-2.5 MOA

Switched to 168 TMKs in the Federal TMK line as recommended by Form and haven't looked back.

Does anyone have velocities on factory 175 terminal accent? box says 2600 out of a 24-inch test barrel. I am shooting out of a 22" barrel with a silencer co scythe ti. I am guessing in the 2560 range.

Mine did 2520 average with them. Not fast by any means but they shot good

Just got a spanky new barrel and a tune up on my 700VS 308. I shot 8 or 10 unknown junk cartridges, then cleaned it for the first time. I popped two more junk shells to clear it out. Time to quit playing.

Sent 3 Sierra Match Kings 168 into this paper. I decided to walk back and send one more into the group. Maybe I missed the entire Target and backer because I couldn't find it :)
No powder charge test.
No seating depth tweaks.
Just 45 grains of Varget in Lapua brass 0.015 off.

I forgot my cardboard backer so the paper ripped. But best I can measure it's 0.35 inch. Going to have to develop this load at 200 yds+

I like this game. I'm hoping to get maybe 4,000 rounds out of this barrel before I can measure any degradation. Sounds like Coyote Hell. Yeah, it might be too big but it makes them very very dead.

Gotta make make more of those and figure out a hunting bullet load. I only cooked up a few.

Totally anecdotal, but in a similar set up (22in tikka with a SiCo Omega 300) shooting 175 Federal Gold Medal Match that also bas a box MV of 2600 has for me been 2550 in one lot and 2605 in another

It's definitely a contender for a one and done cartridge. I brought mine to the Brooks Range thinking it should be fine for sheep, but also had a grizzly tag in my pocket. After talking to the outfitter, he assured me 165 gr Accubonds would be fine for both. Passed on a couple of grizzlies so never got the chance to see how it would do, but took my ram at 430 yards w/o any drama.

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I bought a Savage Model 10 in .308 about 10 years ago. Always had good intentions to shoot it more, but never got into it much except for a couple deer hunts out west. Going to plan to shoot it some more this year.

I have a bunch of Hornady Superformance 165 SST ammo. It's killed a handful of deer and a cow elk.

I'm going to put a MIL scope on it and try out some of the Hornady Black 168 Amax and maybe some of that Federal TRU 168 TMK to compare.
