How important is all 4 to you? All 4 sheep, or all 4 Ibex in Spain. Or anything to complete a series.

American Sheep Grand Slam is certainly not a reality to me.
Spanish Ibex can be a reality, as you can get the trips at auction for reasonable prices. I already have the Gredos. But to me, it's not important at all. Maybe I'll do another Spanish Ibex in my lifetime..

Filling my freezer is more important to me, that completing a series.. How about you?

I’m a stone sheep away from my FNAWS. Watching the prices get totally stupid over the last several years has made it drop pretty low on my priority list. To me personally it would be selfish to blow 120 grand on a hunt. This being said, I do buy a fair amount of raffle tickets every year.

I have no desire to complete any slam. I'm the sole income earner in my house so I gotta look after my wife and kids before I drop a second mortgage on some hunts.

If I were a divorced dude living in my parents basement then yeah I could see myself spending every dime on these hunts to make myself feel I'm somebody lol.

I think it would be cool to complete the slam. I don’t think I’d pay the prices for stones or Rocky’s though. I hope to win the rest of mine in raffles or drawing tags.

Three years ago I never even thought about completing the slam. I only had a Dall. Then I was lucky and drew a Cali bighorn tag in NV and next thing you know I am half way there with some decent points in AZ and NV to draw a desert. The stone is the one I will really have to get lucky for with raffle tags as I could never afford or convince myself to budget for the cost of that hunt. It would put my family and retirement at too much risk. So I keep applying and hoping knowing it isn’t in the odds but continues to be a dream.

I went to SCI, and they had a cool display of the slam. Not that it could fit in my house, but still pretty cool. It would need to go in a restaurant or bar type setting.

Easy decision after arrowing a couple Rocky’s, a Desert and a Stone all DIY. That was over a 37 year period of hunting sheep when I drew a tag, Eleven tags went unfilled despite my best efforts.

Went on one unsuccessful Alaska Dall hunt many years ago with a really bad outfitter, (Shankster) but learned from it.

Paid the price in the NWT to bow hunt a Dall. Dang glad I did it 7 years ago the way prices have escalated.

I have no desire to get the sheep grand slam.

This being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience sheep hunting and will continue putting in for raffle hunts. I also hope that someday I draw a bighorn sheep tag in my state

We will see - when I was younger (teens) I’d see the slam mounts in Sportsman’s, etc and think it would be awesome to accomplish. With the price of hunts, I’m not sure it’ll happen. I’m going for a Dall hunt in 2026 in the NWT - we will see if I catch the sheep bug.

For now, I keep entering raffles and applying- maybe I’ll get lucky with a tag 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I like the idea of hunting slams and lists but have zero desire to complete the Grand Slam as it's just not financially feasible for me.

Pursuing other goals like the North American Super 10, Spanish Ibex Slam, SA Spiral Slam etc are far more approachable and something to work towards.

I'm currently trying to complete the North American Super 10.

20ish years ago it was a reality for a savy middle class dude now it seems the slam is all but for the ultra wealthy. Heck I’ll be pumped to get 1 crack at a Big horn in Co I know guys who have hunted them 2/3 times off of draw tags

The freezer means more to me than a piece of paper congratulating me. I might go for a stone hunt as a resident, but I am happy shooting Dall sheep. Euro mounts look the same.

I drew 6 archery ram tags plus a ewe tag in CO between 1976 when I first applied for sheep and when I moved to BC in 2009. Arrowed 2 rams there. Never got to hunt the ewe as I drew a NW CO archery Elk tag and AZ archery elk tag that took priority.

No desire for a slam, but I do want 1 of the NAWS species in my lifetime. Don’t care which or where, but I want 1 of them. My dad started applying for the desert sheep in Utah in his early 30’s, thinking he would one day kill all 4. Now he’s just hoping he draws the one desert tag and will MAYBE pay for a dall, but he’s all but written it off at this point. He’s still relatively young (54), but as much as he loves hunting, he knows he can do lots of other hunts for the cost of one stone sheep hunt. Hard to justify there’s any value anymore.

But we do both really want an aoudad…

If I had the funds to do it and all the other hunting I wanted to do, I would. But I don’t and probably never will so I just enjoy hunting what I can, with people that I enjoy. Not going to sacrifice that for even one sheep.

Could use a Rocky and a Desert to get a Slam. I love sheep hunting but prices have gotten ridiculous. Talked to a friend recently and Mongolia might be a better place to spend money.
