I have an opportunity to fish POW in mid-late August. Primarily salmon with some halibut.
I have previously fished the area but only in June and early July.
Should the fishing in August be better or worse or no different? Weather?
I do realize it is fishing so there are no guarantees anytime.
Thanks

Was there last year first week of August and am going again this year a few days earlier. Coho didn't really show up until late August this year, but we still brought home a few. Lot of smaller kings. Halibut action was steady. Fished out of Ketchikan third week of August two years ago and did ok on silvers, but they were late coming in again. Should be pretty good for your trip depending on the run timing this year and where you're planning to go

I watch the fish markets here in the PNW and the Coho were in the stores late this year. I smoked a bunch of fresh around the 12th of Sept. with $10/lb fish. That's as cheap as it gets. They're usually are all gone in late August and the prices start climbing. I've fished out of Ketchikan mid Sept. and caught a few. Not an ideal time to fish though.

Have had a boat in Ketchikan for the last 12 yrs and we wish the south and east side quite a bit. August should be excellent for coho, might be a few pink stragglers in the salt. Kings will be spotty, over by Craig would be the best bet for Kings. Halibut and rockfish will be good about anywhere
