So hard to tell with the bases getting that light of a color. My initial guess was 14.5, but there have been a lot for that so far. So I will go with 16.5

Difficult to age without using a tooth. Probably somewhere around 11-12 years old. He's broomed off 3-4 years for sure.
His one tooth is missing, but the others don't look that abused.

Stellar ram!

I think he is 14.5,, that is the type of Ram I would like to take. Old bruiser, broken, thick, missing some teeth, looks like he was the king of the bar fights on the mountain.

Awesome, simply awesome!!!!

Kuhn4 and Golden arrow were the winners. The correct age for the ram according to Yukon fish and wildlife was 17. The estimate I came up with in the field was 15. After arriving back at base camp we took several other sets of horns from the area to determine how much horn might be broomed off. We determined it to be between 15 and 17 inches gone, so if the ram had lamb tips it would have been somewhere between 47 to 49 inches on the long horn. Now the story behind it.
For several years in a row I had been backpacking in to this area and taken some nice rams. The problem was that it was 12 air miles from the lake just to get to the base of the mountain. The outfitter who was also the pilot found a nice scree ridge to land the super cub on and thought we should give it a try. It had a steep uphill grade to it but was silky smooth. When we touched down things were going great. Then about half way through it a huge tailwind came out of nowhere. It was to late to throttle up and get airborne again. Soon we were pushed off the end of the strip which in this case meant over the top of the mountain. We were airborne again but well below stall speed and the plane made it about 100yds horizontal and 50 vertical before we touched the ground again. We didnt skid to far before the plane stopped and luckily never flipped over. The landing gear folded up and there were quite few new bends in the plane that werent there before. The pilot, myself and my 120lb dog Benny, who was sitting beside me were all OK and so exited the plane in a hurry. The plane was toast so the pilot made the appropriate calls on the sat phone to transport Canada etc. We started the 12 mile walk out back to the lake and had arranged for another pilot to fly the hunter to the lake and start the walk in. When we meet a few miles from the lake the outfitter flew the other plane out and the hunters pilot joined in on the hunt. We made it back to the camp area the next day. One day up the mountain and we got into a group of about 7 rams that this one was with. There was abit of fancy shooting that went on and some confusion as to which ram was to be targeted but we finally got him. I had spotted this ram the year before and turned him down in favour of another ram…..but thats a another story.
