Center for Biological Diversity is also petitioning CPW to tighten rule on the use of non-lethal predator deterrents before CPW can issue a permit to kill. Ranchers will have to prove they've complied with all non-lethal deterrents to be able to be compensated for depredation.

Yep. After their win on Mar 4 with the fur ban, they are gonna keep launching these. Expect bans on lion hunting, bear hunting, and furbearer harvest to be next. They see blood in the water. We have to derail the commission appointments in the state Senate.

For me the near term move is to light up the email inboxes and voicemail of Senators Dylan Roberts-Steamboat and Nick Hinrichsen-Pueblo. They will be the swing votes in the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

After the embarrassing debacle at the March 4 Commission. And the following vote against the CPW Director's recommendation and stated will of the voters, the commission voted to accept the fur ban citizen petition. Respectfully request the committee convene an oversight hearing with the Commission Chair Rich Reading and Vice Chair Jay Tutchton to achieve some level of public accountability and regain trust with critical stakeholders such as hunters, anglers, trappers, and livestock producers. Until such a hearing is conducted, request the committee halt confirmation of any CPW Commissioners. Furthermore, express concerns with the appointments of Emerick and Sichko and their ability to represent their statutory constituents and objectively support science-based wildlife management. I suspect both Senators will have plenty of opposition research on both. I believe CPW Commission appointments will begin hearings in committee next week.

Be respectful, I believe both of these Senators to be favorable to sportsmen. If you live in their districts, make sure they know that.

Murphy and Beaulieu were NOT recommended by the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee yet the senate went ahead and voted them in anyways.

Can someone explain what exactly the commission voted on and what happens next? It sounds like it now goes into “rule making” right? Dos that mean it gets to be more official to then go on the Colorado ballot?

Nothing will go to a voter ballot, the are using their stacked game commission to set policy at the parks and wildlife level.

I agree these attacks will keep coming, I just do not see any way that the commission could possibly justify these bans. Statewide cat hunting ban was just voted down by wide margin. The bear population is massive.. bear encounters were up 15% in ‘25 over the prior 6 year average. I’m not saying they won’t do it, but there’s 0 logical explanation for either of them, CPW would get crucified.

Exactly. First step is get them NOT recommended in the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources committee. Then it will get scheduled for a floor vote. That is when we full court press every Senator. We had the votes to not confirm Beaulieu. However, Governor’s office intervened. They delayed the vote a few times. Polis sent out his henchmen from DNR, Spineless Dan Gibbs and Tim Mauck. Backdoor deals were made. They were able to pressure enough Senators to confirm them. Beaulieu was still only confirmed by two votes.

To those that showed up to the commission meeting on March 4th and 5th, thank you. Our voice is strong and is getting stronger. We must fight for what we love.

I wrote my senator again pointing out these commissioners are blatantly advancing their personal and governor's agenda and not operating in good faith in their roles to represent the citizens of Colorado as a whole. Noting that his vote to appoint some of these commissioners despite the unfavorable recommendation of the senate committee has directly contributed to this situation. The senators that approved these folks are also accountable for this situation, they need to be reminded of it, their vote isn't water under the bridge in the minds of the voters.
