I have been sending emails to a few companies asking for permission to hunt specific parcels of land which are owned by gas and oil companies. As one can imagine I have not had any success. Figured it was worth a shot to ask. anyone have any in site or approaches which may work better?
I have also included all of my information and dates.

Most companies are concerned about liability and damage to the equipment. Are you wanting to bow or gun hunt? That will make a huge difference.
Try to get a number for their land man and give him a call.
If you want to PM me the company names, I’ll see if I have contact information. I’ve spent 30 years in the industry and have hunted several properties in Illinois. It can be a sweet gig.

Most oil and gas companies don’t own the surface rights of the acreage they operate. They lease the mineral rights from the landowners, and get a working interest in the oil and gas reserves below the surface once they drill producing wells on the acreage. You have to contact the landowners for permission. Most oil and gas companies only get the rights to use the surface to drill and operate the wells.

Hope that helps.

What about gas and oil on blm/public land whereas the oil companies put up gates and posted signs?

You’d have to contact blm about that. In my experience the company only can control access to their well sites on BLM land. The Typical BLM mineral lease agreement gives the lessee limited rights to block public use of the affected land.

I work on a rig wyoming. The blm is still accessable. You just have to use the blm or national forest roads not the lease roads which are the roads put in by the oil company accessing the well sites.I have noticed hunters hunting oil company owned land, not sure if they asked permision. The oil companys own the private ground they drill on both surface and mineral here in south central Wyoming the only no tresspassing signs I see are to actual wells.

Thank you all for the feedback. I am planning to ask for permission for a couple of different pieces of land which are privately owned. Trying to get to the right person is the struggle. Just going to keep on trying until I connect with the right person who gives the yes or no. I also would be willing to sign a document for liability purposes. Has anyone else had to sign anything when getting permission from a oil/gas company?
