I had to double check the specs on the nomad. Looks like configured similarly (flat end caps and DT) it’s ~1” longer and ~1oz heavier. The scythe has end caps for different calibers too, albeit from aftermarket companies.

I haven’t shot the nomad, but based on volume and previous editions I bet it is quieter (volume is still king). For a hunting can folks may appreciate a bit shorter/lighter (albeit marginal).
I'm not sure if you're looking at the original Nomad or the newer 3d printed Nomad XC's. Its 0.5" longer for DT vs DT. For an extra 0.5" if it outperformed the Magnus S, which according to TBAC's Summit it did, I'd take that additional performance any day..

Sycthe without the brake is 5.8”. DA site lists XC at 6.74”. Maybe confusion is comparing like configs. That’s about an inch.

Scythe won’t be beat for length and weight. For an extra inch I don’t doubt the XC will be a bit quieter. Likely close to the STi. Not impressed with magnus. TBAC is behind IMO.

It is marketed with the brake and it appears it is normal for people to run it. It's 6.16" as configured with the brake. Sure, take the brake off to make your point valid.

TBAC is quieter than the Scythe going off of SiCo's ads for a 300 WM. Nomad XC quieter than Magnus, Magnus quieter than Enticer, Scythe somewhere in between those two I imagine. Nomad XC is essentially TBAC Ultra 9 performance in a sub 7 inch can.

Well I happened to win a KGM cert at the match yesterday so looks like I’m going that direction. Probably another R30K.

I was planning on going AB Raptor 8

For a bolt gun I expect any of these should be hearing safe (under 140) for 1-2 shots. For the money, a AB 30 cal A-10 is a good choice, 7 stack, 10 oz, sub $500. I have one to run on my AR, but will admit I have not tried it yet. I also have a scythe and AB Raptor 375 10 stack. I really need to do some back to back testing.

From silencer summit, the AB 10 stack is down in the 120’s on a 308, so should be similar for a 223 bolt. Yes it’s heavier and longer than a scythe, but not by much.

Now I want a nomad XC. I gotta stay out of these threads.

There were lots of talks about the scythe with/without and with the omega 300 brake. What's the consensus? I actually have the 300 brake and still haven't tried it.

A flat end cap will definitely be quieter than with the brake. I don't think the Omega brakes offer a ton of additional recoil reduction.

I assume we're talking the raptor 8 for comparison?

Might want to ask yourself long term if there is another 30cal can of this nature in your future (or you're happy using the KGM R30K on the 6.8western). If so and you wanted to focus on the 223ai and 22br for now (or later) the DD wolf hunter would be a strong contender and should out perform all the above cans on those platforms. Its basically a Sti but in a 6mm bore, which optimizes it and makes it quieter vs the others being over bore.

DD Sti - bang for the buck and can still get replaceable end caps for now which will quiet it down for the smaller calibers some. It is likely the loudest of your list.

Sythe - shortest, lightest, more expensive than the DD Sti but likely quieter. You can still get replaceable end caps for this one.

Raptor 8 - Its probably the quietest of the ones you listed I expect with something like a 3" reflex on it, but its heavier (moreso with the reflex) and tends to be the most expensive. The modularity is nice to swap configurations but the ATF really took some wind out of the sails (or sales haha) on the concept by banning them from selling reflex's and end caps separately. So with AB you can't even get a smaller endcap to use on your 223ai and 22br if you order a 30cal stack.

The good news, any of them should make you happy. Probably just comes down to whether budget, weight or loudness are most critical in your prioritization.

For what its worth I have a Raptor 8 I like and have a DD wolf hunter in jail right now.
You get that Wolf Hunter yet?

I have a Raptor 8 7.62 and am debating my next can and am pretty much down to the Scythe-ti or the Wolf Hunter. Be very curious how the Raptor 8 compares to the Wolf Hunter.

Edit: Nevermind, DD cans are off my list after reading the thread about them causing POI shifts and coming apart.

I have Scythe Ti and AB Raptor 8 w/ 3" reflex.

I prefer the AB.

However, where I live the Scythe Ti was way easier to get thru Capital Armory, straight to my door.

I had to order the AB thru Silencer Shop and it required 2 in person visits to a luddite type shop about 45 minutes away with a kiosk. I sucked it up because I just wanted them after I borrowed one in Montana.

You'll be happy with either.

Or do like I did and get both!
What’s the weight of the raptor 8 with 3” reflex?

3 inch bull barrel reflex adds about 6 ounces. So 14-15 ounces total.

If I remember correctly, the flush mount is about 2 ounces. So the reflex adds about 4 ounces total.

I did. Mine with the 5/8-24 adapter was 8.9oz on my scale. I put a few rounds of 243win through it after a hunt last week but I was tired and knew the family was wanting me home so I didn't play around too much. I shot one without ear pro and was pleased in terms of volume and then half dozen rounds just to preliminarily make sure it didn't drastically open up my group with that ammo (it didn't). I didn't have a wrap on it yet so mirage was starting up at that point.

The raptor was on my 284win for the hunt and I didn't try it back to back on the 243win with the wolf hunter, which is what you're mostly curious about. I think it'd be helpful to have another person there when I do that to compare opinions. I think it is definitely a bang for the buck if you are wanting a suppressor dedicated for 6mm and under. The scythe is a tad shorter, tad lighter but a couple/few hundred more, it offers flexibility of larger calibers but you have the raptor like I do for that.

Thank you. The couple hundred in savings is what got my attention. Though after just reading the thread about DD issues, I'm not sure the savings are worth the risk.

Having shot my flush mount Raptor 8 on my 243 next to a scythe on a 6 creed, I think they are pretty close.

Yeah I ordered mine before that thread came up (iirc it was the full bore ones folks had issues with?). I need to shoot more with mine but the very initial impression is it didn't seem to affect accuracy on that rifle/ammo.

This is very compelling for the scythe if perceived sound is similar compared to the raptor 8 as that seems to have rave reviews on sound/suppression on here.

Creed had a 1 inch longer barrel, and the Scythe-ti had the Anchor break on it. The creed was loaded hotter than my 243, getting about 100 fps more velocity.

To my ear, the Scythe-ti was slightly louder, but to @B_Reynolds_AK ear the Raptor 8 was louder.

Anyway, SilencerShop just restocked the Scythe-ti, which made me decision as differences in shipping, price, and tax calculation made it $165 cheaper than through Capital Armory and only only $200 more than the Wolf Hunter through Capital Armory for me.

I am looking to add a can to the stable to improve upon my TBAC 7, I have it narrowed down to the scythe and raptor 8. Is the raptor 8 and reflex that much worth it over the scythe for recoil and sound?

Where is this thread? I've looked and can't find it.
