AB Raptor suppressor - Reflex

I bought this can with the expectation of using it without the reflex during hunting to cut weight. But I almost never take it off.

Same here, I figured I'd toss it or stuff it in a closet somewhere and forget what its for but I put it on my rifle with the reflex and it balances well so I haven't taken it off. I had a bunch of carbon come out of mine. I heard it in there and unscrewed it and dumped out a little pile.

Are end users still allowed to select which size reflex they can get? When I back ordered my raptors it seemed like there were no options and you could just get one the way they packaged it for sale at the factory which for me was Raptor 8 with a 3" reflex. Seems like one more superfluous think to obsess over. I figured they went to 3" for the default because the 1's and 2's don't do enough to make a difference and the 4's and 5's are awkwardly long.

My 3” sporter-profile reflex has a crapload of carbon in it and weighs 4.6 oz. 8-stack and 3” is 13.4 oz. I’m guessing 2500ish rounds through it without cleaning. I bought this can with the expectation of using it without the reflex during hunting to cut weight. But I almost never take it off.

Same. And I never take it off now also. I think gun balances better with it on.

When I bought mine, it was what the LGS had in stock. Then they held it for 8 months until the paperwork got approved. As I understand it, the increase in the speed of ATF approvals has made raptors a little harder to get. You have to order them now and wait on backorder. I assume you can get it any way you want, but I wouldn’t t one that was bigger or smaller. The three inch sporter-profile reflex on the 8-stack just works really well.

This is what they emailed me previously (I haven't back checked it against my 3"): The weights for the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5" reflex are 3.2oz, 4oz, 4.7oz, 5.4oz, and 6.1oz.

Some dealers you can order one configured as desired. Most others stock one of a few standard configurations and AB will swap out infired parts to your preference (for $50 or such).

When you all have returned your can and reflex for a swap with AB, did you get a return label from AB or risk mailing on your own? I’m skeptical of returning it on my own after some research. According to AB I just need to send it however (ups is fastest according to AB.) Include a copy of my form 4. But after looking around I notice most of the big shipping companies prohibit these items. I’ve not had good luck with USPS or UPS, so I’d definitely be getting full insurance. But if something did happen, the carrier likely woulda’t honor the insurance claim, because it’s a “prohibited item.”
AB says, as long as their turn around is 24hrs or less it doesn’t need to be “on their books or sent via FFL.”
Should I wait until Monday and ask AB for return label, or send it UPS signature required now….?
Any advice appreciated, trying to hurry this along for an upcoming CO bull tag.

Had some trouble at the UPS store shipping it. They didnt want to ship anything firearm related.
I got a box to fit the can that had no markings on it, packed a copy of my form 4, the RMA, the can, and the reflex.
I then went down the street to another UPS store and told them I need to ship a muffler with $1k insurance.
They shipped without issue.

AB got it two days later, turned it around same day, and I got it 2 days after that.

I would say go for it. If you ship today you'll get it before second rifle.

I'm now a super happy owner of an AB8 with a 5" reflex. Reflex stays on for the range. Debating if I want the weight in the field. My Tikka shoots super duper well with it, the balance is great, and the experience of quiet and lack of recoil is really, really fun.

In what way was the 5”improved over the 3” for you? I took my 3” reflex for the raptor 8 for hunting and I liked it that way. But I did notice it was a little more muzzle heavy than it felt with the reflex on after carrying it a while in the field.

Never shot the 3”, so I can’t tell you. I hunt with the flush mount, and that is what I’m comparing the 5” to.
