AAE Max Hunter Vanes - Won't stay glued on?

I like these vanes really well. They seem tough and I'm getting good groups but I cannot keep them glued on my shafts. I can't figure it out. Tried different glue, wraps, just tried them on new arrows. I always wipe off my shafts with acetone before gluing anything on. I can't figure it out. I switched back to blazers and have no issues with them staying on.

Any ideas? Anyone have this same issue?

i bought a package of those about a month ago and had the exact same issues. i prepped everything with acetone and was using loctite ultra control gel and could pull them right off after letting them set up for a day. i just gave them away.

What colors are you using? I've had issues with most of the AAE vanes, particularly white. Anymore, I don't acetone my shafts. Sand shaft with 180 grit sand paper lightly, wipe off with paper towel and fletch with Gorilla glue super glue. No adhesion problems.

my vanes that i had problems with were white. maybe it's specific to that color? i posted my issues up on AT and got similar responses about how i needed to do all the prep work and buy aae glue. i tried everything short of buying their $12 bottle of glue. if you're really set on shooting these vanes then i'm sure you can figure out a formula that will get them to stick. i just didn't see the point when i could pull a fusion out of the pack, no prep, put a bead of loctite on it, and an hour later i can't pull the thing off with my fingers.

I'm using green and white color fletches. Yeah I've used acetone on everything. I haven't tried AAE glue. I always use Easton glue.

With all AAE max vanes i prep the shaft and base of the vane with acetone. I use AAE maxbond glue (as their instructions state) and they hold great. Im sure if you use a glue similar in chemical make up it would work equally well. Maxbond is a cryanoacrylate ester which i believe is different than regular cryanoacrylate.

DO THIS!

I had problems with AAE max vanes sticking to the shafts until I just followed their instructions. Now I can't rip them off.

Same for me on the Max Bond Glue. And you don't need much. A few dots then "paint" them thin with a Q-tip. I've had better luck with placing them on wraps as well. I found early on that I was using too much of the adhesive and had it running all over the place and it would dry brittle and weak. And I press the vanes in hard so they are flat on the arrow wrap and hold for 15-20 seconds before letting go. I also use this to clean the vanes before applying. A little expensive, but clean, easy, and I think will last awhile so long as you remember to put the cap back on. AAE MAXweld Primer Pen

I'm using the Stealth Vanes btw.

I'm going to have to call them, I really like their flo yellow max hunters, even bought their expensive glue and primer pen. Putting them on a wrap, and they still keep pulling off.. Very frustrated, I'll give them a call!

I used acetone to clean the fletch and loctite gel had about 90% success with the above. To much hassle for the results for me I'm going back to blazers

I got a bad batch of white, mold release agent likely wasn't cleaned up. Clean the vane foot with acetone before gluing, pretty simple.

AAE Maxbond is the best glue I've used for any vanes I've tried.

However, I won't use vanes that I need to do anything special with. I don't use acetone, alcohol, or anything else but a clean cloth to wipe the shaft.

I'll 3rd this. I had a target get shot out and had a few arrows stick in the target with the point outthe back and the vanes in the target. I had to pull them through and the vanes were bent to hell, but still stuck on from back to front. I also put a drop of glue on the front and the back of each vane.

There is a reason you have to use their glue. There is an activating agent that allows it to stick to the coating on the vane. I don't know why or what other glues have it. Just what I was told after having similar issues.

what is the process if you put wraps on the arrow?

Nothing really different for me. Wipe down the arrow shaft with denatured alcohol. Place the wrap. Wipe it with denatured alcohol (or you can paint it with the MaxWeld Pen, but I've had no issues with just the alcohol). MaxWeld the vanes. Max Bond glue applied very thin. Place the vane and hold for 15 seconds or so. Rotate the arrow and do the other vanes. Then finish with a dot of Max Bond on front and back of each vane. I usually let mine cure for 24 hours before shooting, but you could probably shoot sooner. I don't recall the specific time in the Max Bond instructions.

One thing i noticed early on when I was using too much glue and losing vanes on occasion, was that I was leaving a little space in the arc of the vane base. Now I really press hard on my Bitzenburger clamp to get that base flat on the arrow from back to front. I kind of pin the back of the clamp on the jig and then roll the clamp/vane onto the arrow pushing any excess glue/air out the front of the vane.
