Anyone ever tried reusing vanes?

I had a batch of vanes that didn’t stick at all. Like falling off with very little effort (I wasn’t using a primer pen with AAE MAX stealth vanes).

Many of them came off with almost no visible glue or residue on the vane.

Would it be a waste to clean them and try and reuse any of them??

I might try it out, just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

i dont see why you couldnt reuse them. ive stuck them on when theyre half ripped off. but from what i understand the max vanes absolutely require the primer pen, heck even the hybrids i have dont stick very well without a primer and theyre not supposed to require it

Yes. The primer pen is absolutely necessary in my opinion. Thats why I’m contemplating reusing the old vanes. They were literally peeling off my wraps. They don’t seem to have any glue on them at all. Got the primer pen and now they are good to go. I think I’ll try a couple arrows with the reused vanes and see how it goes! I’ve got a pile of them.

Are primer pens "universal" or brand specific (AAE, Blazer, etc) depending on the type of glue each manufacturer uses? I have some blazer veins and some of the Bohning Fletch tire. From my understanding, Bohning blazers don't require primer pen as they are pre primed. But I'm new to fletching arrows and trying to learn.

To make things more confusing, I recently got a package of AAE vanes and an AAE primer pen. When I opened the bag, there was a slip of paper warning me NOT to use a primer pen on these vanes.

That's weird. From my understanding with the Bohning blazers they come pre primed maybe the same with AAE which is why they don't recommend using a primer on something already primed? I don't know if fletchings can be reused but I don't see why not if the glue is properly removed from the fletching and arrow shaft. Perhaps that's the time to use the primer pen? 🙃

Here’s the message that came with my hybrid vanes. Going back to product description on Lancaster Archey, the vanes are described as coming with “lick and stick “ factory applied activator. So I guess I should have read the fine print before ordering the pen.
