A neat way to thaw meat

Just slapping it on an inverted iron skillet works very well, too.

Adding the additional iron seems like it would speed things up but I've never tried it.

A thing to watch for. This will cause your iron to sweat or condense water and, if not cared for and dried well, will cause it to rust

I tried it with an xl moose shank and it worked a lot faster. It wasn’t an hour but I believe the bone was the culprit. I think it kept the meat from getting full contact. Definitely faster than sitting in a plate on the counter. Thanks again!

Thats pretty cool. If water is not a precious commodity then I thaw most things that are in a water tight package in a pitcher of room temp water. I live in SWFL so water isnt cold coming out of the tap. Water pulls the cold but still keeps the meat cool while thawing. About a half hour for steaks in a vac pack and about 40 minutes for a tube of ground meat. You can speed things up by exchanging the water after the first 15 to 20 minutes. I tried using warm and hot water once but didnt like the result.

I have a bunch of containers with inserts like below...we pull meat for the week on sunday...everyday goes in bin and it all goes in the fridge. When we pull for dinner it's thawed.
