Hey all,
I've been using a Slik Pro CF-634 tripod with a Siru x10 for years. My better half needs a better tripod so I decided to repurpose mine and try out a Tricer-AD.
The Slik and Siru are 45oz
The Tricer-AD and LP are 38oz
A little background: I glass and sometimes shoot off of my tripod. There have been 3 shots facing down hill yet shooting across a canyon that I needed the tripod front leg extended pretty far and the backs pretty short. I needed to remove the center column to make this happen. The Slik has the ability to just unscrew the center column and the head remains attached to the tripod(I'm just now learning they all do not do this) I didn't even think to question it as I had no idea to ask.
Also when I shoot off the tripod I just remove my optics and throw a shooting V notch I converted into the ARCA mount. I dont actually lock my rifle in place, just use it as a steady front rest.
When glassing I love the ability to lean back against a rock and rock the tripod to my, like a bipod. I can extend or lower the center column based on what I need vs extend the legs. Super helpful and convenient.
I also have a angled Swarovski spotter so being able to make a quick adjustment when switching between the two is very helpful.
Well I think I am answering my own question as I type this. I prefer to have a center column......BUT I want one that I can remove without removing the tripod head.
I really like the feel of this Tricer. The weight and components are pretty sweet. With the pan head it is 7 ounces lighter than my Slik and feels very solid.
Keeping this in the realm of backpack hunting and wanting to be able to glass standing here and there. Here are my questions for you all. This is a pretty expensive upgrade or can be so need some help seeing what I am missing.
What other options are out there that I can remove the center column while the head remains attached?
What other features am I missing or not thinking about?
Any and all guidance/advice is mush appreciated!!
Jason
