To preface, my family and myself frequent Puerto Rico often. I know there is a massive problem with iguanas down there, however there is also a population of fallow and whitetail deer in the central and eastern portions of the island. My question is, does anyone have experience hunting there? I’m interested in taking a few days and prowling the jungles down there to see if I can turn something up.

It’s difficult to find any actual information. It would be pretty neat to go down and try to make it happen successfully. I know you can go to Mona island and hunt pigs and goats which I’ve thought about doing with a trad bow. Camp on the beach and take a few days.

It really is. I haven't found much other than there are whitetail there and that I want to go! I have never been there, but I had a buddy in basic training that lived there. He told me how awesome it is down there and I've wanted to go since then. Deer hunting would make it that much better!

I believe we’re going down later this year, I’m going to try to force the wife into a trip before it gets hot. I’ll try to do some recon and report back 😂

So from my understanding, for Mona island you have to apply in person for a permit to go to the island, charter a boat then you can go. If I remember correctly, the max your allowed to spend there is three days, all camps are to be set up on the beach, no camping inland. The island is supposedly fairly harsh as well, no fresh water so you’re bringing everything with you. Seems fairly alluring to me.

My brother just went there for fishing last month. Caught a really nice tarpon(5ft) off the docks. Also great food. Maybe he and I will have to do a combined hunting and fishing trip
