Looking to replace an XTherm regular mummy with a rectangular pad this year. I'm a side sleeper and tend to toss and turn. Not tall, so 72" length is fine. Thinking a wide would be ideal given my tendency to toss and turn. Seems like the market for this type of pad (high r-value, rectangular, thicker) is pretty slim.

Am I missing any options that should be considered below? REI was the easiest site to filter for products in the categories I'm looking for so I could be missing a few.

One of my gripes with the XTherm is how loud it is. I have a Sea-To-Summit Ether Light XT 3.2 R-Value that's more of a 40 degree plus pad, no complaints with it. This pad would be for sub-40 degree nights and paired with either a 30 degree or 0 degree EE quilt. Used either in a tipi with borah bivy or Durston X-Mid1p with inner.

The new extherm NXT is MUCH quieter than the old one fyi. I went from a sea to summit ether extreme XT to the rectangle, wide NXT. Love it.
I still like the ether but cut some weight with only a $$ penalty. And the NXT is warmer.

I have the Nemo extreme with only about 30 nights on it. It’s quieter than the xtherm for sure and very warm. I’ve slept comfortably down to 0 degrees with a 15 degree big Agnes summit park bag.

Durability hasn’t been determined yet as I need alot more time with it. However Nemo has excellent customer service.

I use this for all seasons, it is rated at 6.5 and weighs about 32 oz. I am a side sleeper and move a lot. Keeps me from ending up on the ground a lot.

It has worked well for me down into the low teens in both tents and tipis with no ground cloth. I will never use a regular width pad again. The few extra ounces are worth it due to the improvement in sleep quality.

I have the nemo alpine which was just a small step down from the extreme in R value and I think is discontinued, but I really like it. Nemo pads in my experience are far more comfortable than thermarest. If I needed a new pad tomorrow it would be the tensor extreme

I have used Nemo extreme and alpine. Both close to zero deg outside. Extreme is warmer but weighs 6oz more.

Unless you are talking about well below zero, I feel the memo extreme is plenty warm.

Backcountry literally just had a 20% off sale, I got the Exped Ultra 5R since it was $135 after tax and shipping. Depending on how the 5R performs may snag a 7R! Let us know which you get and how it does

You could add a cheap waffle pad under the pad you already have, problem solved.

I rate the best single pads as #1 Exped, #2 Xtherm.

Sometimes I use the cheap waffle under the lesser pads I have and have done it with my Xtherm. It's a good way to get a little more comfort and insulation plus it protects the pad from punctures.

The only down side is it's bulky....but it's so light you can strap it to the outside of your pack.

Nortent Torv 7 is on introductory price of $71 right now. R value of 7, 26oz

I have an Exped Ultra 7R and I do like it. I find it comfortable and quiet.

Does anyone find it too warm for Sept archery Elk? I'm thinking of picking up another pad in the 4R range to have as a backup or if the overnight temps are warm.

I use a WM Alpinlite 20 degree bag.

I definitely get too hot on the xtherm I currently have. The two-pad, two-bag system has covered every condition for me so far.

Soooo a little twist to the question. I apologize for derailing. I can start another if you’d like. But what if you don’t have the sub 30oz requirement? I use mules to pack in. Need to be lightweight but not necessarily as light as you guys taking everything in on your back.
