Berger’s marketing has always been frustratingly confusing to me. They need a complete refresh imo, but that’s besides the point. I think I have a handle the VLD target vs VLD hunting as that’s what I typically use when not using a mono, but what about the construction of the hybrid?

In the 6mm 105, there are vldh and hybrids. What is the difference in construction? I know the hybrid name is related to the shape/ogive tangent/secant, thus the name, but how does jacket thickness/construction compare?

ok, I see now that the 105 Hybrid is actually called “Hybrid Target”. I missed the target part before, which better explains things.

What a mess their terminology is. Why don’t they clean that up with clearly different names that are easier to understand?

Two word names.
First word is profile, second word is jacket type and/or use-case. Possibly the most meaningful and straightforward bullet naming convention on the market, but OKAY

Ehh, Berger could probably ditch the whole vld line and still not be able to keep up.

105 hybrid is thee 6mm bullet. I’m not sure for hunting, but for shooting there is something special about that one.

If a bullet is not a hunting bullet, it is of little interest to me. That’s the only reason I shoot bullets. Hunting or practicing to hunt.

I havnt used them but I know people do.

The 108 elite hunter has a similar hybrid profile. Worth a try.

I’m personally not a huge fan of what bergers do on deer but I won’t shoot anything else at targets.

I haven’t used the 105’s but the hybrid target line are generally certified killers.

Much like the eld-m, which is also not a “hunting” bullet

Except for Elite Hunter. Or Juggernaut. Or OTM.
Elite hunters are still Hunting bullets that product page lists as hybrid ogive. And OTM are Open Tip Match. You got me on the Juggernauts.

In all seriousness, the 140 hybrid targets were terrible hunting bullets for me. Three deer in the lungs and little to no disruption in the offside lung on any. No clue how the 105 hybrid targets are

Forgot about the Classic Hunter too.

So what happened with the 140? I thought the targets had a thicker jacket, so how could it possibly destroy the onside lung and then fail to penetrate to the offside lung? Penciling through both would make more sense I would think.

Hybrid Targets are killing machines. Don’t be swayed just by the names. It just has a slightly thicker jacket than their “hunting” bullets. It just makes for a slightly longer entrance length (which sometimes isn’t even the case) before it ruptures and destroys the vitals.

You are safe to use the hybrid targets or the Elite Hunter, EOL’s or VLD Hunter. They will all kill exceptionally

Oh boy. Another one! EOL!

And no one else thinks they need to clean up the terminology?

Nice buck there!

My bad on the wording. Yes it penciled through both.

Bullet didnt disrupt/frag in any real manner through the animals is what I meant.

EOL's and Classic Hunters pencil onside lung and disrupt/frag afterward on everything Ive killed

ETA offside lung on one animal, and onside+offside lung on another with 140 hybrid targets
