6mm Berger choices

Berger’s marketing has always been frustratingly confusing to me. They need a complete refresh imo, but that’s besides the point. I think I have a handle the VLD target vs VLD hunting as that’s what I typically use when not using a mono, but what about the construction of the hybrid?

In the 6mm 105, there are vldh and hybrids. What is the difference in construction? I know the hybrid name is related to the shape/ogive tangent/secant, thus the name, but how does jacket thickness/construction compare?

Hybrid Target = Target VLD Jacket with a different bullet profile.
Elite Hunter = Hunting jacket with a hybrid ogive

The difference between Berger hunting and target bullets are that hunting bullets are designed with a thinner J4 jacket, allowing for rapid expansion.

First word is profile, second word is jacket type and/or use-case. Possibly the most meaningful and straightforward bullet naming convention on the market, but OKAY

I havnt used them but I know people do.

The 108 elite hunter has a similar hybrid profile. Worth a try.

I’m personally not a huge fan of what bergers do on deer but I won’t shoot anything else at targets.

I haven’t used the 105’s but the hybrid target line are generally certified killers.

The Elite Hunters continue to impress me with their performance on game with my relatively small sample size but others accounts as well.

In all seriousness, the 140 hybrid targets were terrible hunting bullets for me. Three deer in the lungs and little to no disruption in the offside lung on any. No clue how the 105 hybrid targets are

So what happened with the 140? I thought the targets had a thicker jacket, so how could it possibly destroy the onside lung and then fail to penetrate to the offside lung? Penciling through both would make more sense I would think.

Hybrid Targets are killing machines. Don’t be swayed just by the names. It just has a slightly thicker jacket than their “hunting” bullets. It just makes for a slightly longer entrance length (which sometimes isn’t even the case) before it ruptures and destroys the vitals.

You are safe to use the hybrid targets or the Elite Hunter, EOL’s or VLD Hunter. They will all kill exceptionally

My bad on the wording. Yes it penciled through both.

Bullet didnt disrupt/frag in any real manner through the animals is what I meant.

EOL's and Classic Hunters pencil onside lung and disrupt/frag afterward on everything Ive killed

They might be the only ones that give measurements of every bullet at different points. I think their website is really informative and easy to use.
