6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

How dumb is it to order 500 rds of 100-200 yard practice ammo that I’ve never shot through this rifle before? Barnes 100 gr JHP and a Tikka 1/8 .243?

I could order several types of ammo and see how they group, but I’d honestly rather just get a bulk order and be done with it.

I guess I don’t know how bad it can be since I’ve never seen a rifle of mine “hate” some ammo.

I just ordered 2 boxes of those Barnes just because they were cheap. When I get my 1/8 .243 back from the gunsmith I’ll see if it likes them for practice then order a couple hundred more

My standard practice is to order five boxes of different ammo (generally the cheapest I can get) and find the one that shoots the smallest 10-shot group. Then I buy 200 more of that. Whenever I get down to about 40, I buy another 200.

Is the Sierra 110 match king good for anything other than targets? Got some in a box that was mismarked and then found they suggest 7 twist. My 6 creed is 8 twist so trying to figure out what to do with them 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've read some of this thread but not in its entirety like I have the .223 thread. I drank the koolaide and got me a rs special and it's been serving me very well. Now to my question, I bought my oldest daughter (10 yo) a youth Weatherby .243 which I'm going to put a Trijicon 1-6x24 scope on but I'm not sure what factory ammo to use? I've bought several had this rifle threaded for a can so I'm trying to make a pleasant experience for her.
Anyhow, I saw some hsm low recoil 85 gr sierra ammo that I'd like to try but I can't find out what exact bullet it is. The description of the bullet is vague so I'm not sure. Has anyone tried this? We'll be hunting whitetail 50 to 200 yards. She can shoot my 223 with 73 eldm's well it's just not an ideal lop.

How about for balancing killing with meat harvesting?
You could just hold up for a year, I’m sure this thread will be flooded with 107 and 116 TMK kills by this time next year. That’s kind of my plan, and to see what availability looks like after the one year mark (Sierra sucks at this aspect historically). I still have quite a few 108 eldm’s to burn up before I have to make that decision anyway.

I couldn't find much on it. Seems like it might be a proprietary bullet for HSM? Might get some better info reaching out to them.

The bullet used in the HSM Low Recoil 85-grain ammunition (specifically chambered for .243 Winchester) is a proprietary Sierra 85-grain Tipped Spitzer Boat Tail (SBT) bullet.

Here are the specific details of the bullet:

  • Manufacturer: Sierra Bullets, designed in a special partnership with Hunting Shack Munitions (HSM).
  • Design: It features a distinct orange polymer tip (often referred to as an OPT or Ballistic Tip).
