6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Factory Sporter 22” barrel 1:7.5 twist
400 yard shot
2177 Impact Velocity
Slight quartering to shot. Hit on his left side a few inches behind center of center. Exited just in front of his right rear quarter. Definitely not optimal placement considering the angle, but he dropped on impact and never moved. Caliber size entrance, nickel size exit. Lots of bullet/bone fragments near the exit and sloshing inside the body cavity.

That’s a beautiful bear!

Unfortunately, kids sports got in the way this weekend and we are heading for a vacation overseas for the next week, so won’t get a chance at him until weekend of June 13th (if quota hasn’t been met).

That sounds terrible! Just send me the GPS coordinates and I will get him bundled up for your freezer for you! I would hate for you to miss vacation. I will do the work of convincing him to "play dead" for you!

Enjoy vacation and the kiddos. They are only young once... then again, maybe you need to take them after the bear before vacation!

I would really like to see a version of the .223 and 6mm threads titled "below 2200fps impact velocity kills".

At this point, it seems pretty silly to dispute the ability of these bullets to wreck deer and elk at 0-400 yards out of guns sending them at 2700-3200fps. I'm much more curious to see the results filtered for lower velocities.

It's just a continuation of the "less recoil makes you a better shot." line of thinking.

Factory Tikka barrels left over from action removal from complete rifles.

They usually have the 6.5 pop up as they pull them (new) to put a custom barrel on. I would give them a call as I would vet they have one other listed or could make that the next one they pull to swap... just a thought.

My 16.5" proof has 108ELDMs going 2620 which is still over 1800fps at 550yds - outside of a range I'm willing to shoot currently.

Only hangup is grizz at this point, although I will have a 10mm on my chest and other guys with me shooting 300WM or 7 PRC.

What makes you think that the 108 ELDM from the 6 ARC won't penetrate a grizzly? I would wager that it would do more damage than your 10mm.

Never said i didn't think that, and assume it would do much better than my 10mm. Just a "is more better" scenario I guess.
