6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I have read, and our family used the 223 and TMK on 8 animals this year. I was specifically referring to the 6mm and the ELD VT as it is not heavy for caliber and flying faster than my short barreled 223. I am not arguing with it. I am genuinely curious how the "lighter" for caliber bullets do? Especially at closer ranges. I have spots i can shoot slightly over 400 yards but all of our animals last year were under 100 yes. Higher velocities can do goofy things. Not disputing, just learning and inquiring on a fast, light c
"Varmint" bullet at close ranges.
I have NOT seen, touched, or shot the eldvt. I shot two bucks last year, and my rifle was used for a 3rd, with an 87gr VMAX out of a 6x45. My muzzle velocity is 2680ish. All three deer died and were recovered immediately. I would assume the eldvt would do fine/great on big game if you kept your impact velocity low. Looking at the cutaway, the front half of the bullet is just copper jacket. The vt g1 is .410 vs .400 for the vmax. With the hollow front, it would appear that it may be more “splashy” than the lead filled vmax.

Has anyone had any luck getting the 103 eldx to stabilize in a 9.25 twist .243. I have about 300 95 gr NBT’s left and they are not super easy to find around here. I was wondering if I should try the 103’s out or just go back to the 95gr Berger classic hunters

I’m in Canada so that won’t work. I can find them every now and then but the 103’s are definitely more common

I was already planning on joining the .243 crowd this year and then Tikka announced the threaded barrels for all their rifles so I waited until my gun store could get one. Showed up last week. Tikka T3x lite, 20" barrel .243. AB A10 and a SWFA 3-9x42. View attachment 871835
Perfect set up. What bullet you planning on shooting ?

Idk if it’s the angle or what but that thing looks a mile long

Anyone shot both the 103 eldx and 108 eldm care to comment on similarity or differences?

Bc dosnt make a lick of difference within my effective range with either. Iv seen and shot a number of deer with the x and m line of eld and am curious if the 6mm acts similar to the 6.5, 30 and 22 cal offerings

https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/the-243-win-superlite-saga-painless-method.396181/ Here is my experience with the hornady 105 BTHP and the 108 ELDM. Flip to page 2 to see my load dev on the 108 eldm. I settled on 45.0 grains of H4831sc. Pressure increased for some reason at 46.0 grains after about 220 rounds. My last 10 shot group measured .9”.
Could you be starting to have a carbon ring building up causing the pressure. I had a load for my .204 Ruger that started to show some pressure signs after about 400 rounds but accuracy was also dropping off. I thought my barrel was almost toast but I cleaned the ring out and everything went back to normal

I’ve never dealt with a carbon ring but, it is my understanding that if it is a carbon ring, it will continue to grow. When I dropped down to 45.0 grains due to my sudden pressure the rifle grouped tighter than at 46.0 grains and has a better SD (if your into that sort of thing). I think I am going to leave it alone unless it gives me a reason not to.
