I’ve shot maybe 8 deer with and 3 large pigs with a .243, my dad has shot probably the same number with a .243 and 6mm remington, and my uncle has killed probably a dozen deer and two dozen pigs with a slow-twist .244 Remington. Between us we’ve used everything from 85-100 grain bullets and haven’t seen much difference in terms of killing power- everything seems to die immediately or make it about 50 yards. Internal damage is always massive, but the more explosive bullets often don’t exit and leave terrible blood trails when they don’t, not that it has ever mattered.

Has anyone use prvi’s 243 ammo? I just picked up a 243 and have been looking around for some cheaper ammo to shoot through it. I got the gun used and was planning on rebarrelling it to 6 creed but I wanted to see how it shot first.

If you want to see how it shoots, shoot something that’s known for good accuracy. PRVI is not that ammo, it’s some of the worst ammo I’ve ever used. 2MOA in accurate rifles is pretty normal.

IMG_20141203_165138924.jpg525 yards 243 win 105 hornady bthp. She ran maybe 50 yards. Dropped another at 200 that afternoon with a frontal shot.

I have killed 10 or more with the hornady 105 bthp with great performance. Had a 105 hybrid pencil through on a 100 yard broadside shot. I really like the 90 grain gamechanger that I'm loading in my son's 243.

Recently put a thermal on a Ruger predator in 6 creed. Previously always ran a 7.62x39 on an AR.
Man this thing is deadly shooting hornady 105gr bthp and 108gr Eldm. Haven’t had a chance to cut it down to 18” but both loads shoot about 2950 out of a 22” barrel. Just shooting factory hornady loads on the night set up because I don’t feel like looking for my expensive Lapua brass in the dark 😬. One shot kills on everything that got hit in the front half.

My 6mm CM has really become my favorite WT setup for the southeast. The 105 Hybrids have been fantastic. Mine is a custom rifle built on a Defiance GA Hunter action.

I’m considering a 6mm CM for my kids first deer rifle but the factory offerings are limited. They use an AR now in 6.8SPC with adjustable stock while hunting with me but for their own rifle I am hoping a 6mm CM factory setup is doable otherwise, might have to look at other cartridges like .243, 6.5CM, or 7mm-08.

I’ve got a semi custom 6cm made by APR off a Bergara action. Also shoot the 105 bergers out of it and it’s bad medicine.
I’d love to make it a kids gun out of it also. Thought about a manners cs1 stock but dang those things are pricey. Also wish there were more options in factory form out there

From what I’ve researched a 6 cm and 243 are near identical in velocity. If you don’t reload I can see the advantage of a 6 cm for heavy bullet factory ammo. I don’t think there is a heavy 243 factory ammo besides maybe 100 gr soft pint a that I’ve seen. Tikka is also in process of converting to an 8 twist 243. I’ve seen 2 on shelves but a local gun shop said all he was showing in warehouse inventory was still 10 twist. He thought they’d be more available as the year went on.

I think those tikkas in 8 twist 243 is exactly what my nephew needs for his first rifle he's a bit young yet so I have time to wait for them to roll out

I have been so impressed with the 105gr Hyrbids that I would consider it for my kids. My 6mm CM has a 1:7.5 twist and shoots them well. I don’t see .243s with a similar twist, is my hold back.

I shoot a 6 BR and a 6 XC. Both are shooting Norma factory ammo in 105gr moly coated BTHP. Both are semi custom rifles that I’ve been culling whitetails and the occasional nilgai (as well as hogs, coyotes, bobcats or anything else that needs killing) with down here in south Texas. My experience is little entrances and big exits as long as the critter is 200 yards or more. I have shot a buck square in the shoulder and had the bullet blow up on the humorous bone breaking the shoulder but not killing the deer. That was years ago and now I just try to stay high shoulder or directly behind the shoulder. High shoulder generally ends in DRT. Behind the shoulder generally ends in a nice, short blood trail to a dead critter. Nilgai are different though. I’d shoot neck or tight behind the shoulder.
