Weird marks on primers

This is factory ammo but I figured I would ask here.

Savage 110 trail lite in 7BC that for certain boxes of ammo is incredibly hard to extract fires brass. Feeds loaded rounds fine but then has very heavy bolt lift and occasionally needs to be mortered

Are these marks indicative of anything that could help me diagnose the problem? Thanks

Can you post a close-up of the bolt face? Looks like there's a rough spot, at minimum, making that mark in all the primers. Not sure if that has anything to do with the difficult opening, but maybe.

But being that the 7BC is using steel alloy cases (correct?) it may be a little different in diagnosing case sticking issues such as excessive pressure, headspace, etc. I know the NAS3 cases can cause unusual issues not generally seen in brass cases.

@PaulB84 im dealing with the same issue of having some rounds work flawlessly and then a random extremely hard extraction. I've contacted Federal and both boxes of ammo I have are current production! My rifle is a Tikka T3x action and Proof PXT barrel. 20260630_125703.jpg20260630_125801.jpg20260630_125856.jpg

50 or so rounds in on my PBB 7bc on Seekins ph3. I’ve had ~5 rounds that weren’t really hard to extract but just the last 10 degrees of bolt throw at the top are tough. Had to slap bolt up a couple times but then it extracts easily from there. Kinda opposite of HK slap haha

Damn ok. I had one box of ammo where every one was impossible. It was the fusion 175 grain (zinc, not polished nickel case) and I blamed it on that. Federal swapped it out.

Couple boxes of 170 grain TA, no issues at all. Then tried the 195 Bergers and 155 TA and back to about 30% extremely hard to move.

Yes, there is a blemish on the bolt face. My smith doesn't think it's the thing causing issues, but we're checking everything.

I have a proof 20" on a defiance that so far has been flawless....

I guess I need to check all my lot numbers. I bought like 2 boxes each of everything when it all first came out, so other than what they sent me as a replacement, what I have is probably old.

Now I'm nervous

Mine are the 175g fusions as well. I haven't tried any other because I can't find it lol.

Midway has had a pretty regular supply.

Usually the Fusions sell out first cause they're the cheapest lol. But they also tend to be incredibly accurate and a great bullet for game.

I read one very unflattering review of the 195s on deer. The 170 TAs have been used by plenty of guys to flatten bear, elk and deer.
