6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Has anyone ever tried loading reduced loads for a .243 for hunting purposes? Rifle, load, results on game? Trying to decide if it’s worth tracking down different powders.

I've used the Hornady Custom Lite loads in 7mm-08 for my son. Killed well and held good groups. Might be worth checking out the 243 version before you chase down new components.

Thanks I’ll look into that. Up in Canada so not as much availability for ammo/powder though

I'm unsure if this will be valuable to anyone, but here are Links to Animals Harvested on this post for quick reference.
That is an excellent spreadsheet. Thanks for sharing. Its a quick easy way to share 6mm terminal ballistics on animals. THANKS!

Midway has factory seconds on clearance. 87Vmax, 90 NBT, 103eldx, 108eldm all over half off new price.

Cheap 6mm range bullets.

*I'm assuming these are the bullets, as I couldn't find any other tipped bullet at that grain weight and caliber.

Anybody here have experience with the 108 seconds?

Heard of a couple reports of wildly varying ogive locations in the seconds which would make them a no-go for me. But if it’s just discoloration I’d buy a bunch of them…

I’ve only ever bought one box.

And I don’t have factory firsts to compare to.

But I just pulled 22 out of box and measured.

For what it’s worth, I can get the caliper to vary .001” with the amount of force I apply.

So I’d call the +- on error .001

Thanks man, very helpful. That’s better than I can shoot, surely.

First deer with my 22” barrel Howa Mini 6 ARC. 108 ELDM handloads 2675 FPS.

Doe was 250 yards. Double lung pass through with good entry and exit holes.

I’ll probably hunt with this little rifle exclusively. I watched the hit and exactly where the deer ran back in the woods.

I want to do a similar build for hunting of deer as well. 6ARC shooting 108's out of a 20" barrel.

26" aoudad at 310yds. 108eldm 6 creed. First shot was pretty far back, believed to hit liver. Ram went 10ish yards and bedded. Finished off at 15yds.

Impact was caused by wind drift. At shooter wind was 0. At ram wind was variable gusting 10-15mph. Novel, mountainous, terrain with wind isn't a gimme. In hindsight I should've followed up quickly but didn't want to spook another ram that we knew was bedded nearby. It all worked out and we killed the second ram.20241215_112530.jpg

Wel.... 2nd lung didn't get hit. I'd like to know if it would have with a larger caliber.
As a former 338-378/partitions for white tail guy I am seeing the small cal attraction.

My buddy and I were set up side by side to fire at the same time. He had 3006 175 terminal ascent and I had 6cm 108eh. We shot from a rocky point through a juniper tree ~20 mph wind terrible uncomfortable position. We fired at the ~same time his 1st shot missed, my 2nd (neck shot) put the elk to the ground before my buddy got his 2nd shot off that missed also. His 3rd shot hit a bit high and took out spine.

I saw both of my impacts so I had a pretty good idea what to expect, my buddy had no idea what was going on after the shot.
