6 creed with a 108 ELDM going 3125fps. Shot this heard bull at 486 yards. First shot was into the upper rear portion of the front quarter. That shot destroyed the lungs and the bull ran about 50 yards before stopping. IMG_7908.jpegIMG_7909.jpegIMG_7910.jpeg
Once he stopped I put two more into him fast. The 2nd shot was a little lower (was targeting the heart) and the 3rd shot I decided to put it right on top of the upper shoulder again. These shots were on the opposite side of the body. IMG_7906.jpegIMG_7905.jpeg
I really don’t think I needed the two follow up shots but it’s so freaking easy to do with a light recoiling 6 creed off a tripod. The lungs and heart were destroyed inside and those “light” 108s punched through all that elk “armor” at nearly 500 yards. IMG_7891.jpeg

I am having analysis paralysis on 108eldm vs 112 match burner for elk. I have both. Both are accurate. I can push the 108 to about 3100 and the 112 to about 3050.

No one is getting exits on elk with the 108, right?

You’re going to get the same results, a dead elk. If it were me I would use the MB’s for no other reason than data. The ELDM is a known performer. Load the first round in as a MB and follow it with a ELDM.

That's a nice bull, and those follow up shots were just "insurance". J/K and well done!

I vote 109 eldm, more slippery, same terminal performance!
Ugh I wanted to but they didn't have them in stock when I bought bullets! Now that they're in stock I don't have quite enough time to wait on them to arrive and then get Zeroed and trued before hunting.

Maybe! A couple of comments on MB being explosive above 2800 is giving me pause. At muzzle velocity of 3050, it doesn't hit 2800 until over 200 yards.

18” 6mm ARC shooting factory 103eldx. One round at 200yds, she travelled about 10yds and toppled over. I put one more in her just because her head was still up.

Bullet fragmented upon impact penetrated to off side shoulder. Lungs and heart all had fragment damage. No pics because it was pouring rain trying to break her down.

Do you mean the 110 ATips, or is there a new bullet at 109?
You can find them here...

Thanks, I have not seen them before. Hornady doesn't list them on their site are they made specifically for GA?

Made for GA for the 6 GT ammo they spec'ed and they sell the components too.

Jay

"Featuring a new projectile from Hornady, the 109 gr ELD-M; Features a bullet body shape identical to the 110 gr A-Tip, but uses Hornady’s red Heat Shield Tip."

The BC isn't quite as good as advertised when shooting to extreme ranges. I found them to be a 286g7 for waterlined dope to 1300y. However the advertised numbers work to 800. Just goes to show small variation in bc doesn't make a difference till you're long ways out.

The 112 Barnes is the sleekest option 6mm has. I've verified a 308g7 to 1100y with mv from 2910-3080. It fragmants very hard, prob not ideal for close range shots. I'll be testing the 109eldm and the 112mb this fall at 6cm and 6prc velocity from a lot of ranges on deer elk and Antelope. End of season I will do a large picture/data dump.

Edit: there are a few more slippery options in 6mm, pointed non-ringed dtac, and 110 atip. But these bullets haven't been proven to upset consistently, especially at lower velocity. I think an atip would at prc/saum/UM speeds, but who knows how violently. I know the larger caliber atips have been used on game, with a lot of mixed results in all I've read.

What twist rate barrel? I see they recommend at 7 or 7.5 twist.

Glanced through this thread again, and didn't see any info. Looks like the Berger 115gr HVLD's are in the wild once more. Anyone using them on game with malicious intent?

Hi all, looking for more input on the Berger 108 Elite Hunter. I'm hoping to get some first hand experience as I have them loaded up in my 6CM for deer this October, and I will certainly report back here if I use them. But haven't seen a ton of reports on the performance of these bullets so I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

Processing my elk right now and this is the front shoulder. This would have been the last shot that ultimately dropped him. Around 486 yards the Impact velocity was around 2364 fps with 1340 ft lbs of energy (clearly not that energy matters).

I didn’t take a picture but the original shot looked similar to this one. It just clipped the edge of the scapula but still blew thru it. IMG_8033.jpegIMG_8035.jpegIMG_8036.jpeg
