6ARC Tikka

First range trip out with the new 6 ARC build. The rifle started out as an 8 twist 243 Win, but I wanted to see what an even lighter recoiling system was like. I pulled the barrel and put on a 7 twist 18” PVA Osprey prefit .750” taperless contour. Kampfeld bushed the bolt. Dropped it in a Rokstok. SWFA 3-9 with UM rings. OCL Hydrogen K suppressor. Weighs 8 lbs 15 oz without ammo.

I was using the factory M mag that came with the 243 which did not feed super smoothly. I have two pods8 mags on the way. Also considering switching to an AICS bottom metal.

I shot about 60 rounds of Frontier 105 gr FMJ total so far and am really happy with it. Looking forward to loading some 95 and 107 gr TMK with XBR. Even the cheap Frontier stuff went sub MOA on 12 shots. I’ll do a 20 shot group next time I’m out.

You’ll like the mags from pods8. Mine feed like butter.

Lookin forward to it. Just wish there was an option for >3 round capacity. Like 5 or so.
I have told him a few times I would be interested in 5 round versions as well. Shoot him a message. If enough people ask for them, it may become worth it to make them.

Certainly possible if he printed the mags and buyers sacrificed a 5-round factory mag.

I wish @pods8 (Rugged Stitching) would buy a bunch of 20rd AR mag springs, make the floorplate match up to them, and then print 20rd .223 practice mags for Tikkas. I'd buy a dozen.

I know I'm not the only high-volume shooter here who values high-cap mags in abundance, especially for the efficiency gains you get at the range with them.

I dont hate any of my bolt gun rifle barrels so much that the time to load mags (given that they are not 3 rd capacity) is too much of a impediment.

I'm already well aware for folks wanting a higher capacity mag, no need to keep pinging over it. It requires a whole new spring (and a bulk order of them to make them cost effective with risk on the design that they turn out as intended). MAYBE this winter I'll see about getting a 5rd factory mag to get a spring from to mess around with. Nothing is going to happen summer/fall though I can guarantee, way too busy with other things this time of year.
If the current springs will work for 5 rounds...
They do not.

They are too wide for starters. Also I don't think it would be a good match for the material, there would likely be far more spring pressure pushing up and these aren't metal feed lips holding back the rounds. They work with the current spring but more force could cause problems.

You'd worry about burning out a bolt-action .223 with positional shooting and 20rd mags? I don't even worry about that with suppressed ARs and 30rd mags man. 6cm or something hot and overbore might be an entirely different story, but 10-20rd mags should be a basic starting point for high volume practice.

The materials side of things makes sense in being a problem, especially as I'm not as familiar with additive materials. It does make me wonder what it would take to get and use stronger materials.

Springs are less of an issue though, whether small number or large. The biggest challenge with sourcing industrial is knowing the technical terms of exactly what to look and ask for, but a lot of firms also have sales people who can essentially serve as consultants in guiding you through finding the right fit. Once you know the terms and specs, from there it can often just be an issue of calling around to see if a company has some of theirs on hand, rather than commissioning a production run outright.

Don't take my comment above as criticism - you're offering badass innovation and products in your mags already. I just wanted you to know I'd buy a dozen high cap mags for high volume training, and I suspect strongly I'm not the only one.
