I’ve been wanting to do some handgun hunting for years. This year I think I really want to go for it. I have a g20 but it’s iron sight only. I think I want to get a m&p 2.0 10mm. And a stiener mps. I looked at a few 1911s but none I like are optics ready in my price range.

What kind of bullets, do you all recommend?
I got some underwood XTP, but I read some about using extreme penetrators or hard cast flat nose.

.357 mag or larger
Xtp is a WT killer
Keep your shots reasonable distance.
Don’t overthink this.

I use a 357 mag rifle a lot and it is a death ray most of the time. They keel over.

Agreed ☝️. An XTP out of a 10mm is plenty, and I’d prefer that over any of the hard cast/ penetrators.

I’ve had good luck with XTPs as well. Only on one deer but in my research that was more or less the go to for deer size critters.

I have used XTP's a lot in 357 Magnum revolvers (Happy with the results), but I have never hunted with a 10, so no experience there.

I’ve shot several whitetail and hogs with xtp, works well. I prefer the M&P ergos to Glock. I personally use a Kimber with RMR on top and I fitted a threaded barrel for a suppressor as well.

Are you handloading or wanting to buy off shelf and shoot?

Factory, I don’t reload for 10.
probably underwood. I carry 180 xtp in my g20 so probably that since I have some already

10mm?

Real talk here: anything you shoot out of a 10mm is going to be a complete pass-through on a buck that's broadside, and will reach the vitals from almost any quartering shot. Range ammo, self-defense ammo, hunting ammo, all of it. The XTPs are great, but far from necessary. Of all the things to focus on, I'd put ammo selection in a 10mm for deer significantly below practice and stalking.

Got a picture of this rig.
Sounds sweet

I've shot two deer and a bear with my G40 and Underwood 180 XTP I believe they are. The Hornady hollow point.

Handgun hunting is like bowhunting and rifle hunting had a baby. It's a lot of fun.

If you go 10mm definitely buy Underwood ammo. It's loaded to full potential but cheaper than Buffalo Bore.
